Rather expensive hostel, especially for Greece. It does have everything in a classic big city hostel- big kitchen, rooftop and sports bar and it was close to the Acropolis. Generally there was good service from friendly, international staff BUT, I am very disappointed with the way they handled an incident that happened. There was a confusion with beds, but long... Upon arrival, the reception workers were so kind and welcoming!! They were more than willing to help with directions, itineraries, and food suggestions (WAY above par). The hostel really felt like home. And housed some awesome people. Made great friends with the workers and other backpackers as well. Thank you so much for an amazing stay!!

First, the good points. The hostel is extremely well located being very close to Plaka, the Acropolis, the metro and hire car offices on Leof. Andrea Siggrou. It is only about 10 / 15 minutes to walk to Syntagma metro station from where you can catch a direct train to the airport (8€ per person). Booking online was super easy... More

I stayed at the other location around the corner and absolutely loved it! the staff were great and the rooms were great with a balcony to look out onto the action of the town. a short walk from amazing food and souvlaki ( cheap) also cheap pizza is close by if your in the mood. At night we would always... More

I stayed in the Hostels Apartment annex which is situated about 5 mins walk from the actual hostel, brilliant location just round the corner from the Acropolist museum and within easy walking distance of amazing historic sights as well as good Bars and Restaurants. The staff at the studios as well as the staff at their sports bar and fish... More

The location is definitely the best quality of the Athens Backpackers hostel. It's right next to the Acropolis and close enough to the center (2 subway stations away, you can even go on foot). I had a great time there and would definitely stay again! However, I had a few bad surprises: - the free breakfast they offer is just... More

These guys were super easy to deal with over the internet and booking questions and replied to my emails overnight which I really appreciated. The hostel has one of the best positions of any hostel I've stayed in around the world , right under the Acropolis and for value for money must be one of the best-why would you stay... More

That was THE BEST stay I've ever had in a hostel! great location, just down the street from the Acropolis and a nice 5 minute walk from the center. Metro stop isn't even a block! plenty of variety near by ,with cool cafes and fancy restaurants to 2eurogyroz(tasty)! The staff were very helpful and as friendly as can be. The... More

I stayed with a friend of mine at the Athens Studios. We spent 8 nights in one of their studios (2 rooms, a small bathroom and a kitchenette, 2 tiny balconies). The place was clean, the wifi worked well (3rd floor), staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were ok, cleaning staff did a great job, and we had control... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
