Two of my friends and I booked Athens Backpackers for around the beginning of July and I have to say it was quite an enjoyable stay. The website gave very good directions to find the hostel, and check in was quick and easy, a free shot fore the rooftop bar included. Staff were friendly and helpful! The rooftop bar had... More

The standout feature of this hostel is the amazing location- restaurants, markets, ruins and the Acropolis just minutes away. It's also less than 10 minutes walk from Syntagma Square which is handy if you caught the airport bus in. The rooftop was the other main reason I booked this place- it's a shame it has such short hours and closes... More

Spent 4 nights in a 6 bed mixed dorm with an ensuite. My first impressions were not great, the room seemed very small and crammed. Turned out it was just that way because the group of 5 in the room I was sharing with were really messy and left all there stuff lying about. Once they moved out the experience... More

The hostel is very basic from the rooms to the breakfast. However it is cheaper than other hostels in the area and if you are looking for a no frills place to stay it is great. The roof top bar was a nice place to have some drinks and watch the sun go down with the acropolis in the background.... More

Backpackers was one of the more basic no frills hostels ive stayed at, but considering its location and the priced I payed it was good value. Close walk to Syntagma Square and tourist hotspots. No complaints, the room was air conditioned and had a private bathroom for the room. Only warning is don't expect to fill yourself up with the... More

Stay twice, once in the 3-room Apartment and another time in the 3-room Hostel. Similar price (just only 1 or 2 euro difference) but get totally different atmosphere. Apart from the availability of the private kitchen facilities in the Apartment, the room size, cleaniness, toilet, etc. are totally different. The Apartment is super 'value for money'. Both are centrally located,... More

this place made everything just a little bit more special - it's positioning in Athens can't get any better - casual easy going staff that were a wealth of information- the roof top views are a must - make sure you have space on your device - you're gonna need it.

Athens Backpackers is affordable, safe and a great place to stay. The staff make it more worthwhile they are all sooooooo extremely lovely. There are 2 bars between the 2 hostels one on the roof overlooking the Acropolis (great view) and one sportsbar. I highly recommend it to the budget/ solo travelers!!!

I stayed at Athens Backpackers for 3 nights while visiting Greece. It's a quick walk to just about everything-- the metro, the Acropolis, the museums and lots of restaurants and shops. Staff answered my questions about onward travel and hostel has printing available. Room were clean and had a nice shower. Breakfast included.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
