I loved my stay at this hostel. I was rooming with other travellers and I am still in touch with them (2 years later). The location is wonderful. They also recommended this walking tour that was out of this world. He was so friendly and knowledgable. The hostel also owns some restaurants around the corner. The breakfast is awesome and... This was my first experience in a hostel and it couldn't have been better. The staff was really competent and friendly, they gave me all the tips and information I needed to make the most of my stay. The atmosphere was really favorable to make new friends and the location was great! The Acropolis, restaurants, cafés and metro station just... More

I've loved location (few mins by from the Parthenon), staff (friendly and polite) and the close bar (with karaoke and a good breakfast). We had a really nice room for 6 people en-suite. Price reasonable.

We had one quick day in Athens. We wanted to sightsee as much as possible, and needed to catch a ferry in the morning. We decided to stay in a hostel assuming that they would be more helpful and offer more services than a typical hotel - Athens Backpackers did not disappoint! We rented a private room for three, which... More

I stayed in the 6 bed female dorm but i was the only one in there, so i basically had a room and 2 balconies to myself. Winning! I stayed about 2 weeks ago the beds are comfy but the sheets are thin so it got cold at night. The hostel is in a great location, Acropolis station is a... More

I stayed for one night and arrived late. The receptionist was welcoming. It was a bit cold in the room but it was clean. I was not given a locker or she forgot about it. Overall, I think it is alright if you just need a place to sleep.

We are in November, and there is just a light sheet to sleep. Half of the People in the room can't sleep because they are too cold... THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. Otherwise the room is ok, and the staff is nice. But Jesus, I can't sleep!!!!

Really sorry to hear you where cold. The central heating gets turned on in mid November otherwise people complain of it being too hot. We had extra blankets at reception for those guests that feel the cold and I am sorry we didn't give you a extra one. If your coming back through please email me so I can hook... More

Our stay was ruined by Booking.com basically. We booked 4 beds in ensuite female dorm back in January via booking.com. We also sent the hostel a direct email, and they approved it. But few months later we had to cancel one of the beds, and we did it via booking.com. But, when we arrived at the hostel, apparently Booking.com cancel... More

We are really sorry that booking.com incompetence has reflected badly on us. We always suggest to potential guests to book directly through the property. This way we are solely in control of making sure you have a perfect experience. I am glad things went well with the parts of your stay we could control though. See you soon. Best Daniel More

australian hostel in plaka, the best location in athens quite basic but nice atmosphere, the rooftop offers a nice view of the parthenon and there is a bar not far from there held by the owners it just felt strange they tried to give us only one key for two

You cannot beat this location it really is in the heart of Athens. We stayed for three nights and were a little let down by the amenities for the price. Some little suggestions, small upgrades would go a long way. 1. Wall sockets for electronics. 2. Need bathmat 3. Our dorm bathroom had no curtain so anyone could look through.... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
