Backpackers was one of the more basic no frills hostels ive stayed at, but considering its location and the priced I payed it was good value. Close walk to Syntagma Square and tourist hotspots. No complaints, the room was air conditioned and had a private bathroom for the room. Only warning is don't expect to fill yourself up with the... More

Stay twice, once in the 3-room Apartment and another time in the 3-room Hostel. Similar price (just only 1 or 2 euro difference) but get totally different atmosphere. Apart from the availability of the private kitchen facilities in the Apartment, the room size, cleaniness, toilet, etc. are totally different. The Apartment is super 'value for money'. Both are centrally located,... More

this place made everything just a little bit more special - it's positioning in Athens can't get any better - casual easy going staff that were a wealth of information- the roof top views are a must - make sure you have space on your device - you're gonna need it.

Athens Backpackers is affordable, safe and a great place to stay. The staff make it more worthwhile they are all sooooooo extremely lovely. There are 2 bars between the 2 hostels one on the roof overlooking the Acropolis (great view) and one sportsbar. I highly recommend it to the budget/ solo travelers!!!

I stayed at Athens Backpackers for 3 nights while visiting Greece. It's a quick walk to just about everything-- the metro, the Acropolis, the museums and lots of restaurants and shops. Staff answered my questions about onward travel and hostel has printing available. Room were clean and had a nice shower. Breakfast included.

Traveled through Greece with 6 girls and stayed at Athens Backpackers for only one night and I can say it was not nearly enough time. The staff were knowledgable and helpful with all of our questions. Breakfast was very light, but free - great for traveling college kids. Our room and bathroom were clean and the entrance keys to our... More

Centrally located , it's a close walk to anything you want to see , The Acropolis and Plaka. Very easy to get to the Hostel from the airport, short walk from the bus stop. Nice service. Great view from the rooftop bar. The staff are very willing to accommodate you.

Athens backpackers made it easy for me when I was visiting Athens. The metro was a 2 minute walk away while you can reach the Acropolis Museum within 5 minutes by foot. The hostel was clean, has a lift (if you're too lazy to climb up the stairs) and provides breakfast for free (bun, jam and hard boiled eggs). Pop... More

This isn't the Hilton, and you can't expect that for thirty bucks a night. But for only being only a few blocks from the Acropolis, I believe I got my money's worth for the three nights I was there. The security was great there as I encountered no problems with the storage of my laptop and DSLR camera. The bathrooms... More

Walked up hoping to stay at the dorms - was told the dorms were full but we could rent a studio that is housed in a separate building about a 3-5 minute walk away. Location of bouth is fantastic - right next to the acropolis and row of bars. Nearby soulvaki reasonably priced and delicious. The studio apartment was clean... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
