My family and I stayed in an executive suite for one night on July 25, 2015. Our suite was located on the second floor and from our balcony we could almost throw a stone at Hadrian's Arch. The hotel is conveniently located a short walking distance from the heart of the Plaka and major tourist attractions. Our suite was spacious,... More

I stayed here knowing it was #1 on TripAdvisor, so I expected perfection. And the AVA immediately disappointed on a couple of fronts. Our airport pickup, recommended by the hotel and confirmed in writing, never materialized. We were given two different excuses (driver had an accident, driver's air conditioning broke down). After being left hanging at the airport for half... More

This hotel is one block away from an old city arch and within walking distance of the acropolis and the museum. There are shops galore in the area and it was a safe location. It is a small, boutique type hotel with wonderful, helpful, friendly people. The room was comfortable and seemed luxurious for the package price we received. We... More

We were in Athens to go to the Herod Atticus theatre on the Acropolis. This hotel is in a perfect location to walk there and to the Plaka, Syntagma, National Gardens, Monastiraki or the big circular route down through Thiseio round many of the major archaeological sites in central Athens. The room was very spacious with a sitting area and... More

Everything about this hotel is perfect. The location, the staff, the rooms, and the breakfast! It certainly deserves its high rating!! We could walk everywhere and were amazed at the size of our room. We also enjoyed the champagne!

A very comfortable hotel. Service is second to none - from booking to check out. Staff are exceptionally helpful - helping us secure Fast cat tickets when hit a problem. Very spacious & comfortable rooms - can be sued as mini apartments, although there are lots of good reasonably priced restaurants it the area. Very central location in Plaka &... More

AVA clearly deserves the top ranking! It is walking distance to key historical sights! We walked to Acropolis, Hadrian's Gate and many other notable sights in the one day stay before boarding our cruise! Enjoyed the breakfast. Service was great all around. Friendly staff who are always looking to serve and delight their customer!

We discovered this hotel through a New York Times article and are so glad we did. You can't beat this location, right off the main pedestrian access to the Acropolis of Athens. Our room was large and comfortable and included a kitchenette. The daily breakfast buffet was more extensive than most, and staff members made excellent dining recommendation. I'd definitely... The hotel is situated in the historical centre of Athens in Plaka. It is a beautiful building that looks Venetian in structure. From our balcony we could see Hadrian's Arch at the bottom of the road and the Acropolis at the top. We were able to walk to all the fabulous historical sites of Athens. The staff are extremely helpful... More

I dont think we could have made a better selection of a hotel in Athens. The location was just perfect - the Acropolis was at the end of the street, just steps away were great restaurants and the tourist area of Plaka with little souvenir shops. We stayed in an executive apartment which was very spacious and had everything we... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
