We stayed at the Melia Athens in early February. I chose it because it seemed within easy walking distance of many of the important sites/areas of Athens. That proved to be the case: 20 minutes to the Parliament Square, similar to the Plaka area, 10 to the Archaeological Museum etc. The area immediately around it seemed rather run down with... More

Hotel was generally quite good. Room comfortable and very clean with spacious marble bathroom (some mould on ceiling, corners of shower tiles and mastic joints however, which we easily removed ourselves with a cloth, which isn't acceptable in a hotel of this class). We couldn't get air con to work so room was too warm (this is in Winter). We... More

Great service, really helpful staff, great rooms with lots of space. Great rooftop pool and views. So relaxing to chill and have a drink by the pool. Have stayed here twice and would definitely book here again! Great selection for breakfast and wonderful dinner on the rooftop but need to book early so you get a table!

Found the hotel on Priceline.com & booked it only a few days in advance. Upon arrival we were all upgraded to rooms with Jacuzzi's. The staff was outstanding- especially Thanasis T. who was like a personal concierge. He helped us with finding a great restaurant only a couple blocks away, as well as, assisted us with getting around the city.... More

This review comes in a little late, as I stayed at the property in September 2015. We chose the property as it was recommended by a friend and the value seemed unbeatable. It is a business hotel, to Meliá’s standards. We knew it was not right in Plaka and were prepared to take taxis and/or the subway to move around,... More

Hotel absolutely lovely, worth upgrading with spa bath :) Hotel staff very polite and welcoming. However, on our first night we just went for a walk, and trusted our sense of direction to find somewhere to eat.... we did eventually, but found the city a little un-nerving at night. Athens is struggling with Greece's financial situation and the number of... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighborhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
