We have just returned from the Melia Athens Hotel after a lovely week away. The staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were lovely and spacious. We found the beds incredibly comfortable and made good use of the Jacuzzi bathtub. We were also provided with bathrobes and slippers which was a nice touch. The rooftop pool... More

The room was very nice & clean. the shower had jets for a massage effect. The roof top pool was very nice tho it would be nice if it had longer hours. The location was good, a couple of blocks from the metro & 5 min walk from the national archeological museum.

I stayed here with my son in August for 5 nights. Although the surrounding area seems quite run down with every inch covered in graffiti (although I feel this is more to do with the recent financial crisis and protests) the hotel itself was beautiful. Our room was gorgeous and modern (I'm not sure how people reviewing for a stay... More

Fabulous pool and dining area overlooking the pantheon. Very romantic setting. Rooms were outstanding as was the service. Convenient location near the underground that takes you direct to the historical centre. Staff were helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was a bit pricey for the selection. However, a fantastic and memorable experience.

I stayed for a couple of nights before going sailing and the hotel was very clean and smart with a good breakfast and stunning rooftop pool and bar which was a real highlight. The bar for late night drinks i would highly recommend as the view over the acropolis and city is incredible. The local area around the hotel however... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and loved it! We were on the 7th floor, in a gorgeous spacious room that was extremely clean and well presented. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was fantastic however there is no wifi in the room, only in the lobby and it seemed fast but we didn't go to Athens... More

Great hotel, also very advisable to be part of their reward points program. Omonia, the neighborhood where Melia Athens is located, is a bit decadent, but it is only a few blocks away from Monastiraki and Plaka neighborhoods, which are great visits. The hotel itself is well organizied, the staff speaks perfect english, and the roof-top sky-lounge is beautiful (includes... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighborhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
