This hotel was almost everything it's web site promised. It is an un-fancy, quiet hotel that is reasonably priced. The rooms are very simple, but very clean. It is just off the beaten path, but near enough to the historical sites via a short subway ride (2 blocks from the Metaxourgio subway station which is only 3 subway stops from... more

This was by far one of the worst hotel I have ever stayed in; right from the rude receptionist to the lack of amenties. The refrigerator was broken. No one bothered to fix it when we complained. The beds were lumpy and the bedsheets were unclean and smelly. The staff were most reluctant to resolve any issues we had with... more

The hotel is in one of the roughest places I have ever been to, and I didn't feel safe walking around in the daytime, let alone in the evening. The hotel was in a nice old building but pretty basic & although you could see it was refurbished for the Olympics, they haven't bothered to maintain the decor since. You... more

Just returned from staying in the Rio for 4 nights. The room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but I wasn't looking for luxury. The breakfast was OK and the people friendly and helpful. Good value for the money. The only complaint was the WiFi access. Hotel wanted 5 Euros for a 1 hour usage card that ended up not... more

It was simple and frill-free but absolutely fine for our purposes. If you want pampering this isn't your place, but if you want just somewhere to sleep (in a comfy bed) in good reach of the centre then this is ideal. The only thing I would say is breakfast isn't up to much more

Stayed here for 7 nights and have to say that I was bitterly disappointed. There are some hotels that you initially dislike but after a few days they grow on you and your retract your initial disparaging remarks...Rio does not fall into that categroy however. Firstly it's too far from all the main sights and there's nothing in its environs... more

The first thing that should alarm you about the Rio Hotel is that they've airbrushed the photos of it on the official site. They make it look like a detached, leafy residence which couldn't be further from the truth. Rooms were shabby, noisy and uncomfortable, and hot water was an occasional treat. The bar was frequented by the owner's rude... more

I read reviews about the neighborhood and safety and wonder what they were expecting. It's a simple hotel that is off the main street. Athens isn't Beverly Hills, there are some areas that are filled with graffiti and abandoned buildings. That doesn't mean it isn't safe. For the most part, Europe is much safer than big cities in the US.... more

This hotel was a hole in the wall. The staff was friendly but not professional. We felt unsafe as soon as we arrived. Our room was like a hospital room with only a door knob lock. For both nights we put everything possible in front of the door to create a barracade. It is in a very poor part of... more

This hotel was worse than any hostel I have ever stayed in. I spent the night with the nightstand in front of the door. It is in a terrible area!!!!!!!!!!!!!. grafitti and old buildings all around its new facade. Bed had small black hair in it, cigarette stain on a sheet, dirt smudges on sheet. There was dirt in corners,of... more
