We started our adventure around Europe here in athens at the hermes hotel. It is centrally located in the heart of PLAKA - which means old city. It was a perfect location for all food outlets and shopping and above all, tour meeting points. Specific to the hotel- if you are a Internet enthusiast on holidays, the WIFI is excellent,... More

Although the room sizes are small, it's perfect if you wanna tour the old city of Athens and most of the attractions are walkable. The hotel staff is also polite and helpful and the hotel has plenty of traveller friendly initiatives. It is walking distance from Syntagma square upto where you would have to take a metro or a bus... More

I usually stay at places with no less than 4 star status but decided to book here because of the great reviews. The reviews did not lie. Although the rooms were very small, even with a toddler in tow, it was just the right amount of space to relax after a long of day of sightseeing. The hotel is set... More

Small and friendly, amazing breakfasts and wonderful guest relations girl advising on activities and directions each day. Clean, walking distance from most places, but off the track so nice and quiet.

What sets this hotel apart is the excellent staff and the great location. You can walk everywhere. It is not a five-star hotel but it is clean, and with good accommodations. The breakfast was also good. At breakfast, there is a staff member who goes around asking you if everything is alright and what activities you had in mind for... More

A clean and comfortable hotel close to historic landmarks and the manistraki square restaurants. You can pretty much walk everywhere if you want. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Excellent complementary breakfast served daily. Wifi is available free in rooms, though it gets slow when most people returns acknowledged fro sight seeing in evenings.

For those who want the short version - We'd happily stay here again without ever considering another hotel or location. We visited for 4 nights during the 1st week of April. the weather was 21C/70F and sunny - comfortably hot - while the evenings were cool and required a light jacket or sweater. The hotel was easy to find and... More

Very close to Main Square and funky Monastiriki square, flea market. and metros in old heart of city. Five minutes walk to bottom of Acropolis. Very clean and comfortable. Hotel building, bedroom, bathroom & tub a bit cramped due to cramped nature of ancient Athens but nice balcony and who spends much time in a room anyway when the Parthenon... More

After a heavy research at the web to find a hotel that covers a terrace with an Acropolis view, buffet breakfast, and near a metro station, i reduced my search to 3 and the winner was....the god of travel....Hermes! Without any doubt was a great selection! I found all that i was looking for and even more, like someone at... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
