We stayed here for two nights. Reception staff were very friendly (once located in the midst of a permanent cigarette smoke haze). We (apparently) had the best room in the hotel, which consisted of a double bed hard up against a wall, approx 1m of space on the other side, small handbasin, leaking aircon unit and corner shower/toilet 'ensuite'. Think... More

Hotel Tempi is a five star one star hotel. Friendly staff and couldn't be cleaner. Mattresses are a bit hard and rooms a little tight. But this is a one star. It's got a great location seven minute walk from Syntagma Square and cute restaurants right outside. Prepare to climb a lot of stairs to get to your room. There's... More

The hotel is in the heart of Athens so it is an excellent location for shopping and visits to Plaka and Acropolis. Also within walking distance to good restaurants and bars. The room was tiny however and the shower was primitive, but this is fine for a few days. There is only elevator for the luggage so you must be... More

Great location, super friendly staff, nice, clean, basic, air conditioned room. Safe area with lots of cafes and the shopping district nearby. Wifi didn't always work but I was busy holidaying away. A basic kitchen area for guests to use and a water cooler near the front door to top your water bottle up.

After seeing all the reviews I was hesitant in choosing this hotel. But I really don't regret it at all !! We arrived around 1 am and there was someone there very helpfull that took our bags in the "bag elevator".. we walked 3 floors up but had a nice little terrace, view of the acropole. The room was basic... More

A good clean budget hotel with views of the Acropolis from the balconies would be a find, add in a pretty square full of excellent cafes outside the door and a location near on perfect for walking to the major sites, plus a convenient Metro around the corner and you realise this place is a major find. The view, location... More

I have been using this hotel for almost all my visits to central Athens over the last 15 years. It is fairly basic, but that is reflected in the price. However it is clean, well maintained, and has all the essentials. The staff (mostly the owner's family) have always been friendly and helpful. They do not provide food, not even... More

I've stayed here when in Athens since 2008 after it was recommended by a professor of mine who lived in Greece. Family owned and operated by Yiannis and Katerina (and occasionally others), they are very friendly and recognize repeat customers. Reservations can be made via email, often with quick response time. Some rooms have WCs, others down the hall. The... More

A basic hotel , no frills , no elevator ( except your luggage ) no breakfast . But airco in the room , friendly staff and a glorious view of the Acropolis if you have a balcony on the streetside . Room 311 for example . Perfectly located to do everything on foot and a mere 40 minutes by metro... More

We used this hotel to stay for one night in Athens before our flight to the island in the morning. For this it was perfect - right in the buzzing city center with loads of cafes, bars and shops around. Really friendly service and good wifi connection. Room was ok for one night and had a balcony with a view... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighborhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
