I chose this little hotel for its romantic name and excellent location at the foot of the Acropolis, in Plaka district,. It is close to the new Acropolis Museum, and picturesque Anafiotika area - tavernas, souvenir and tourists shops & the Choragic Monument of Lycecrates. Rooms furnished in wood - country style, but beds rathe hard. Our room had a... More

The plus sides of Hotel Byron are that it is very cheap and in just about the most amazing location. It is so central and so close to the Acropolis (about a 1 minute walk to the ticket office entrance). Also the room we were given was fairly spacious which is useful when travelling. Unfortunately we found our room to... More

Positives: location to all major sites in Athens for a good price. Also, a great view of the Acropolis from the roof of the hotel. Negatives: The staff is not particularly helpful or friendly and the rooms could definitely be updated and made more comfortable. The breakfast is extremely limited as well. I would only stay here for the convenience... More

My husband and I, supposedly, made a romantic escape to Athens for 3 days. Certainly, we found one of the staff (a big middle age man) with a rude way to treat the guests. He gave us the key of the room number 1. Beside and around were the room number 2 and some WC. The way to walk to... More

Good - Amazing location for visiting historic sites, shopping, eating, and getting rental cars - Friendly staff Bad - Bathrooms smelled like urine (stayed in 2 different rooms) - Beds were rock hard - One of the "showers" had no curtain - Really expensive for what you get - Reserved a double room with a double bed, but they only... This centrally located hotel was a good spot to discover the sites of Athens. Walking distance to Acropolis, Plaka area, and pick up point for Red Bus tour. Close to metro station. Lots of restaurants close by. Room was basic but clean. Bathroom adequate. Host and hostess were very friendly and offered good information. For the price good value for... More

Location perfect. Owner super nice. Bathrooms smelled, shower tiny (if you are above 180 cm tall and wider than 60 cm it won't fit you). Beds and pillows are hard and old. Rooms are too small. Breakfast is a cup of coffee with one piece of toast and butter. For young travelers who just need a place to crash, it... More

Booked online. It was quite cheap for 3 nights; breakfast was indicated as continental and I was not expecting anything complicated from what I had read. But as it was included in the price, it seemed reasonable. My room was at the ground floor. Spartan but clean and I did have a good internet connection which was fine with me.... More

Do Not Stay There. This place is AWFUL... we found it online and booked it because It is close to the new acropolis museum, but not worth the nightmare. The staff are very angry and super rude. the rooms are not comfortable, and they made us change rooms twice!! apparently someone wanted our room, made us pack everything and change rooms.... Welcome to a nightmare. Don't stay here! This place is straight out of the movie Hostel. If I hadn't been so tired from my day long travel I would have turned tail and ran after seeing my prison of a dank room, but I just needed to sleep and shower and get some rest... Let's see... Where to start on... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
