I have to report that the best thing about this hotel is the lift, The location is superb but the Byron is tired and neglected and about as welcoming as last week's moussaka. It has all the hallmarks of a cash cow and and a relatively expensive one at that. Infuriating, for, with a little effort and some proper maintenance... More

the room we stayed in had separate twin beds despited we had asked for a double, no curtain on the shower. The corridors have been noisy and poorly insulated. The level of cleanliness was modest, not horrible, but not good either. We survided one night fine. And the hote is very well located, 5 mins walks from the Acropolis museum.... More

Booked a "confirmed reservation" for a triplet room with a view of the Acropolis. My confirmed reservation was backed with a credit card and subject to a posted cancellation penalty. After a long tiring day of missed flight connections and lost luggage, I arrived at the Hotel Byron and was given a key to my room. Rather than being the... More

While it wasn't the most comfortable hotel around, I didn't think it was to awful. The location was fantastic - walking distance to main attractions/ subway station is just a short walk down the street, lots of small shops and restaurants near by. The room was ok. Good for a short stay. I stayed two nights, any longer would have... More

I wish I had stayed longer in this hotel. It is ideally located for tourists right at the bottom of the Acropolis in an area called Plaka. Traveling on my own usually on foot I always felt safe in this area. Easy walking distance to a number of major tourist sites in the city I would recommend this hotel every... More

A basic hotel with a very hospitable staff! The location is more than perfect. Amongst shop, cafe's and restaurants and right beneath the Acropolis. A perfect place for a few days sightseeing in Athens! 75 metres from the metro station Acropolis!

There is no better location in Plaka and breakfasts looking out at the Akropolis are indescribably beautiful. The bed was very comfortable (made of memory foam, I think). The price for the room was very reasonable for Athens' high season, especially given where it isand the staff were very friendly. That said, the room I had was small with only... More

For several years my husband and I have enjoyed this hotel. The rooms are quite comfortable, but the bathrooms small. The location to the Acropolis is just a 10 minute walk, to the new wonderful Acropolis Museum only a 5 minute walk. Now a small but nice breakfast is provided for just a very small fee. Management could not be... More

The hotel is in a great location but that is the only positive point. The bathroom was dirty (soiled toilet when we arrived). The beds were small and uncomfortable and the room felt very dated. We paid €80 for one night and I would recommend choosing a different hotel if at all possible.

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
