If you want to be near nightlife, the historic neighborhood of Plaka (around the corner), The Acropolis (10 minute walk), and tons of restaurants and bars, Airotel is perfect. The Temple of Zeus is also right down the street. I loved that you can just walk down the street and there are fruit stands, vendors, and tons of local eateries.... More

We could not have been in a better location for our few nights in Athens! This hotel is right near everything you would want to see and do, within metres of great eateries and a little shop to buy water, fruit and other essentials down the road. The reception staff were beyond friendly, they were welcoming upon arrival as we... More

The hotel is within walking distance of all the main attractions of Athens, but this is the only positive thing that I can say about this accommodation. The free wifi is terrible, and wouldn't connect at all in my room on the second floor. The paid wifi is expensive, and just as terrible. I couldn't connect in the hotel for... More

This hotel is only a few minutes from The Acropolis museum, and a short walk from the entrance to the Acropolis itself. The bus stop and metro station are several minutes away, and there are many cafes and restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel provides a great breakfast and the staff are very helpful, the hotel is very clean, and... More

We stayed for 4 nights. The advantage of this hotel is literally you are 5 minute walking distance from the Acropolis Museum & Acropolis metro station. It is one stop a away from syntagma square metro station ( for the parliament or change of the guard) - which can also be walked under 10 minutes too, if you prefer walking.... More

Great location within walking distance to Acropolis, Ancient Agora and Temple of Zeus. There are plenty of Cafes, restaurants and shopping in the area. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Chilled juice in the lobby was a welcome sight after a long hot day of travel or sight seeing. The room was clean, but in desperate... More

I stayed here with my two teenagers, and the triple room was perfectly adequate for us. The hotel is a very short walk from the Acropolis Museum, which is well worth a visit, and the Acropolis itself which is magnificent. The lanes of the Plaka are also very close by, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose... More

We chose this hotel initially for it's convenient location, right in the heart of the Old centre - 2 minute walk from the metro station and 5 minute walk to the Acropolis museum. While not luxurious by any means, it was clean, comfortable and relatively spacious, good bed, nice bathroom and good wifi. Breakfast (which was included in our rate)... More

Small room, but very clean, quiet and the staff were wonderful. They provided a very adequate breakfast at 5:30 am to accommodate our early morning departure. The airline lost our luggage and they were very helpful in our negotiations to deliver our lost bags.

After reading some of the negative reviews I was not very excited to stay here but they surpassed all expectations. Room was very nice and perfectly clean! The staff was very nice and friendly even when I arrived at 1 am. Breakfast was even pretty good. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
