We stayed at this centrally located hotel in late January 2012 and had 200 Euros stolen from our room. Our experience and assessment of the hotel are essentially the ones described by Thomas K who happened to stay a few weeks earlier than us. If the hotel staff are truly not involved in these robberies, I hope they already fired... More

The hotel could be a gem but it needs some T.L.C. The location is great but plenty of noise from the street and the bathroom needs a total redo. For one night it was cheap but they should be aware there are better one block away. More

I was here back in 2004 and for 35 euro a night it was a real bargain. It still is at 75 euro a night for two, because of the good location close to monastiraki and plaka. But nothing has happened since 2004, old electrical fixtures, old carpet, old bathrooms. Pity, cause with a minimal refurbishing it coukd be a... More

We stayed one night at Cecil Hotel, and that was for sure the max I could take. The hotel smelled badly of cigarette smoke, and was coming into the room from the hallway. The toilet required four attempts to flush, and the road noise was Bad. Make sure you request a room on the inner side of the hotel. The... More

My experience at first with the Cecil Hotel was decent- it was basic but clean and a good location. The first morning, however, I left 200 euros (four 50 euro notes) neatly creased together and tucked away, inside a pouch in a corner of the room. That evening when I returned with my friends, 150 euros was gone. No one... More

I made the unfortunate decision to stay at the Cecil the last couple of nights. I had no grand illusions given the 45 euro per night rate, but even after tempering expectations, this budget hotel was not a good choice for us. I'd recommend spending a few extra bucks and heading elsewhere. Pros: Location--a few blocks away from Monastiraki Square... More

The location was fine between two metro stations and an easy walk to plaka and ermou street but at night, it didn't feel entirely safe- a little too dark and deserted. Also room was fine but heater didn't keep up and there wasn't enough hot water for more than 1 shower. Half the staff was very friendly, offering to get... More

This was very basic hotel and clean, good for those on a budget. They have internet although its one computer that you have to share with the rest of the residents. The rooms are clean and the beds are sufficient, its ok for a night or two. The air conditioning is good too though. Its in the Omonia area which... More

Booked a room at the Cecil at very short notice and found it to be very good value, perfect for a short stay in Athens. The location is great - the nearest metro station is only a couple of blocks away; the Plaka district and the main shopping areas are within very comfortable walking distance; and Monastiraki square with its... Close to everything; pleasant small hotel with character; tiny rooms but with nice 'french' balconies. Super cheap too. Pleasant staff, great little breakfast. 7/10 More
