We stayed at this hotel for one night. Great location, very close to Syntagma square and near the express bus to the airport.Clean, modern room and bathroom ,facing the National Garden.Although we had chosen the deluxe room we didnt find anything special.A small tv,a round table with two chairs ,etc. The breakfast was very good with many choices. There were no coffee... More

We are sixty and don't travel to Europe often. We stayed a week at the Amalia and were very happy. We had a room overlooking the National Gardens; sunlight is important to us. We noticed, once we got to Athens, that many of the others on our short list (4-5) did not have either windows or balconies (except Athens Gate)..of... More

I stayed here with a colleague for 4 nights, combining 2 days of business with 2 days of sightseeing. The location was excellent. Literally right around the corner from the central (Syntagma) metro station and the X95 airport bus (5 euros, stops only at the airport). Across the street was the parliament building, national gardens and stops for hop on/off... More

We just stayed overnight one night at the Amalia on the way through Athens. This hotel has no surprises, at least in the room where we stayed. It had modern, though unremarkable furnishings. Plumbing was modern and water pressure was fine. Lobby bar. No noise, even though Amalia is on a major street - possibly because of shut windows and... More

Stayed at Amalia before and this is our 2nd time. Quite a comfortable hotel and we had a room facing the front with balcony. Traffic noise was bad especially at night if you need to open the balcony door. When we slept, we were disturbed by the beepings of the washing truck and washing noises from street cleaning. Lots of... More

My wife and I stayed in Amalia for 5 nights were pleased with every thing. It's located near the subway station and major attractions including the Acroplis. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the breakfast. I can't find any major faults but foe a four star hotel I expect to get free wi-fi, though it's quite cheap... More

Dingy, dirty, the service was terrible. As management desribed the week before, Athens had snow , hence the heater was turned up.. However, it felt like the inferno!! I called several times for management to look at the thermostat, they said there was nothing they could do except crack the windows open ( an inch wide). We were basked in... More

This hotel offers a good standard of accommodation at a great price. While it's not deluxe, it's clean & comfortable and we were amazed to find we had a balcony overlooking the national gardens. Located just along from Syntagma square, it's perfect for taking the metro around the city or for the airport shuttle bus. It's also easy to walk... More

We stayed at the hotel in Sep'10 for 2 nights as part of a Greek trip arranged by our travel agent in Australia. The location was good - just across from the Parliament and the gardens - and the airport bus leaves from the corner saving an expensive taxi ride to the airport - even better.

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
