Stayed at the Hotel Electra for 6 nights for a conference and had a fabulous experience. The rooms, while typical European small, were very comfortable. Some of our party complained of the heat & mosquitos (AC was not on yet, so windows open), but my room was fine. The location is perfectly situated for walking into the city. Our group... More

We stayed here for three nights and could not find fault with the hotel. We had asked for a superior room so we had a stunning view of the Acropolis. Unfortunately it was too cold to sit out on the balcony. The room whilst small was adequately furnished and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style and had... More

We loved our stay here! The location is really perfect because all the ancient sites and many great restaurants are within walking distance. It's one of the few hotels near the ancient sites with a pool, which we loved being able to relax next to after a hot day touring. There are fabulous views of the Acropolis from the pool... More

My wife, 2.5 year-old daughter and I stayed at Electra Palace in April 2015. The concierge was very helpful in providing information on local sites, rooms were tidied nicely and in the morning as should be expected and a good size too. The Leonidas chocolates on the bed at night after turn-down service was a welcome surprise! We loved the... More

Stayed there on business for two nights in April, 2015. Nice hotel, really excellent location, but nothing so amazing. A bit dated to be honest. The American breakfast was pretty good for a European hotel. Pay a bit extra and stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. I know I will next time.

This hotel is perfectly located in old Athens. This is the only area you will want to stay in if you are planning to view the ancient sites. You can walk to everything and the walk is through the most interesting and enjoyable part of the city. The breakfast was well stocked and offered a wide array of foods. The... More

This is a very nice hotel. The interior décor and architecture is lovely. We paid 245euros/night for a triple. The room was nice enough - clean enough. But, it doesn't stand out as superior in any way when compared to top hotels in major European cities. We ate only at the breakfast buffet was typical with addition of delicious Greek... More

This hotel exceeded all expectations, from the location to the cleanliness. It was what I regard to be a 4-5 star hotel, very enjoyable stay. The hotel is decorated as an elegant older style theme that was actually furnished and kept to a near new standard. I can't explain how good the view from the 5th floor restaurant over the... More

Great location, lovely breakfast and friendly staff. We really loved the restaurant with the Acropolis view on the 5th floor, but you do have to book in advance as it's small and does get full and we were turned away the first night we tried. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

reception staff and porters efficient and friendly . Room satisfactory (I booked one with an Acropolis view. Dinner in roof top restaurant , food good , stunning spectacular views of Acropolis and surrounding monuments , service excellent . One downside no laundry service on a Saturday. Ground bar very pleasant with option to sit in a delightful garden

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
