Right next to the Acropolis, it's hard to find a better location. Price was very reasonable and rooms small but clean. Breakfast solid Greek continental with ham, yogurt, fruits, hard boiled eggs etc. Nice reasonable coffee shops and restaurants close by. Very solid mid range choice for Athens

We stayed at the Philippos Hotel this past March 28th-April 7th 2015. Upon arrival...even though our plane was majorly delayed, they were waiting for us, and checked us right into our room....and helped us with our luggage. Our room was clean, nice décor, and the staff was outstanding!!!! On day three I became ill....they couldn't have been nicer even offered... More

We returned to Athens after a week on the Islands and were lucky enough to find accommodation at the Phillippos Hotel. It was small but extremely comfortable - certainly the most comfortable beds we slept in during our entire stay! The bedrooms were on the small side but well appointed, and some of our party had lovely views of the... More

Dear bateleur_10 “… We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend this to other visitors…” To have won your recommendation after having spent time on the Greek islands (comparing the islands to the city is tough by nature!) is music to our ears. Thank you for taking time to review your stay with us, it will be our pleasure... More

Excellent small hotel with a vew of the Acroloplis. Clean rooms most with a balcony. Tiny bathroom so be advised but staff great, breakfast good and central location for sight seeing . Would recommend for your Athens short break.

Dear Carolwollington This is exactly what we are ‘small and beautiful’! We are small in size (50 rooms), family run (which enables us to offer personal care to our guests) and just around the corner of the Acropolis, in a quiet residential area. Thank you very much for your feedback. More

Our family of 4 stayed in 2 rooms - a double and a twin. The twin room was bigger than the double. Clean, well-kept rooms, entrance, and dining area. There was a slight mix up with the transfer, as they delivered us to the sister hotel, Herodion, which is fortunately only about 50 meters from the Philippos. Double bed was... More

The only thing that would've made this stay better is if the bathroom was larger. Other than that and a smokey smell in the room, My stay was perfect. My room (#507) had a view of the Acropolis. It was a comfortable room and it was not at all noisey. I was only in the room to sleep and and... More

Dear KishaP Thank you for taking time to comment on your stay with us. One may say that precious things come in small packages: to be absolutely honest our proximity to the Acropolis itself, Athens’s most famous landmark, is so extra-ordinary that I am tantalized to forget about the spaciousness of the bathroom –even if at times I myself would... Very good hotel! So close to the Acropolis, you can even see it from your hotel room or on the street. If you go to the top floor, there's an amazing view of it! The breakfast was very good also, cereals, coffee machine and fruit juice, various spreads for croissants and cold meats for breads. Rooms were clean and well... More

Dear WhyYouNoGoodReviews Being characterized as “an overall great hotel” is very honourable, yet when such a comment derives from a Trip Advisor Top Contributor that dots the i’s and crosses the t’s. Thank you for your feedback, it means a lot to us all. More

Went in December for my mum's birthday. Staff were very friendly, the location is perfect as it near the acropolis, restaurants, shops, tour bus and the metro station as well. They have a conservatory where you can use the laptops and you can print for free as well. Breakfast was average, wifi was okay but for the price its quite... More

We received a friendly welcome when we arrived late at night in the hotel. The view from our room was simply perfect with the Acropolis in the background. The terrace was very large. The room for three was not very big but had everything we needed and was clean and quiet. At breakfast time it can get busy in the rather... More

One night in Athens while waiting for a flight to Crete. Chose this place for its proximity to the acropolis and surroundings, and its clean and comfortable ambiance. Absolutely satisfied on all counts. Beautiful view of the acropolis from the huge terrace outside of our 6th floor room. Would certainly stay here again.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
