The location is right next to the Acropolis Museum (and walking distance to most everything you want to see in the area), with a phenomenal view of the Acropolis from the rooftop bar. There are also Jacuzzis near the floor the rooftop bar, where you can relax and stare at the Acropolis. The breakfast was great. The room was good... More

We went to Athens in January - it snowed - but that just added to the charm and experience as we spent the evenings in front of the log fire with a nice bottle of wine. The hotel was well positioned for all the main attractions such as the Acropolis - 10 min and the museum - 5 minutes. All... More

I recently stayed at the Herodian Hotel, Athens before and after a cruise of the islands. It is a lovely hotel, great staff, nice rooms, great roof top deck with a view of the Acropolis/Parthenon. I was in two different rooms, both are nicely furnished with nice sized bathrooms and all the amenities provided. The breakfast featured everything you could... More

This is a relatively small hotel in a quiet but convenient Athens area. it is walking distance to the New Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis itself. It has a new restaurant on the rooftop with an awesome view -- day and night-- of the Acropolis and delicious neo-Greek fusion food. The restaurant appears popular with locals. It is convenient to... We stayed 2 nights in Athens on our way to Santorini. This hotel has excellent views of the Acropolis - probably not too many places you can sit in a jacuzzi and view the Parthenon!! Rooftop bar and restaurant (The Point) is excellent as well. Staff were helpful, breakfast is reasonable but is served from 7am which is handy if... More

Dear Dan G Thank you for your “definitely recommend” closing remark. As you well noticed our view to the Acropolis is as close as one gets from a hotel, let alone from a Jacuzzi! We have always provided the early breakfast service ( before 7am) with a simple continental selection , had we known your request previously. We are always... More

This hotel is in a fabulous location , overlooking the Acropolis and close to all the activity in Athens, everything is in walking distance. The room we had was great but unfortunately, the air conditioning was really noisy and antiquated. You'd put the air conditioning on whilst you were out and turn it off when you came in. For me... Dear Christhebrit, It is fantastic that the location of our hotel worked so well for you “overlooking the Acropolis" "close to all activity” and to have earned your recommendation it is such an honor for us! Your comments on our “very helpful” staff and how clean our property is kept will be passed on!! I was disappointed to hear that... More

This was the first stop of three in Greece for out honeymoon, it was perfect! We had a nice room on the third floor looking at the Parthenon. The staff was polite and helpful. The jacuzzi view was so nice that we visited it both evenings, and the view from the restaurant was SO amazing that even a novice photographer... More

We stayed here 5 nights while exploring Athens. The hotel room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the breakfast delicious. The hotel is located very close to the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum, with many shops, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance. The Metro station is 3 blocks away, there are hop-on hop-off busses stopping within a block of the hotel,... More

We stayed in Athens for one night and wanted to stay close to the Acropolis and Plaka. For this reason, this hotel was perfect for what we needed. A few blocks from the entrance to the acropolis, along with cool restaurants/bars (Barettos and Strofi were our favorites). The room itself was nothing special but a good value for the price.... Dear Kevin S It was a pleasure to have staying at Herodion and to know that you consider us a great hotel. Thank you for taking time in sharing your experience with other fellow travellers. One small creative footnote: your room looked out onto a school yard (silent because of summer holidays) and of course the Acropolis in the background. More

This is a very comfortable hotel. It has helpful staff, lovely breakfast (eggs, sausage, pastries, cereal, cold meats and cheeses, breads, fresh orange juice, yogurt, honey, coffee). We had a room with a view over the Acropolis, very special. But the best is the comfortable, excellent mattress and pillows. The aircon is great to have as well. We did not... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
