Very nice hotel, near the Acropolis/Museum. Staff was wonderful. Breakfast Buffet was very generous, lots of options. Rooftop bar, and restaurant are lovely. Would recommend for families as well. Easy walk to the flea market area.

My girlfriend and I have stayed at the Herodion Hotel five times now. The hotel has a good central location just below Acropolis with walking distance to many of the must-see attractions in Athens (The Plaka, Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum - just to name a few). The rooms are clean and cosy and the free WIFI is fast and... More

Wonderful location. Very helpful and friendly staff who speak good English. Ask for acropolis view room.(only 300 m across roof tops) Excellent top roof top restaurant and bar serving Greek dishes. Central location allows early access to sites before they get too busy, only about 400 m to the Acropolis museum and entrance to the Acropolis

While I did not stay at this hotel (nor eat dinner there)... my mom, two sisters, and I were recommended to go have a cocktail at the Herodion's Rooftop Bar. DO IT!! Oh my gosh the views of the Acropolis and Parthenon, as well as the city views of Athens itself were unreal. We went right at sunset (highly recommend).... More

The hotel was perfectly situated within 5 mins walking distance of the Acropolis and new Acropolis museum. The roof top restaurant/cocktail bar was an excellent place to watch the sunset and the Acropolis as it changed to being lit up for the evening. The food was very good and the staff were very good at understanding the requirements of a... More

An Athens-savvy friend recommended the Herodion, and fortunately we followed his lead. As is apparent from the map, the location is just about perfect; it's basically at the foot of the Acropolis, and the Acropolis Museum is just a few storefronts and a narrow street away. An unexpected virtue was the hotel restaurant. We booked dinner there for convenience, as... More

the hotel is very updated and nice, you can view the Acropolis from the jacuzzis or rooftop bar. It was located close to everything we needed, and at the price it cannot be beat, great place to stay in Athens.

We transferred from another hotel because to the Herodion because it was considerably cheaper. The facilitites were absolutely first clas. THe outstanding feature was the help given by the Concierge in advising us how to achieve our goals in Athens. He was charming, amusing, effecient and concerned.

We stayed at the Herodian for our last night of our honeymoon! We arrived early and the friendly staff took care of our luggage until our room was ready. Very good English was spoken and they were very eager to serve us. This hotel is very centrally located to the Acropolis.... Truly an easy 10 minute walk. Also, a few... More

From the time we arrived at the hotel until the day we left the staff were amazing, nothing was a problem. Reception staff were very helpful and courteous as were other staff from the restaurant and bar areas. This hotel is centrally located and close to the Acropolis, Museum and the Plaka shopping and Restaurant area. We stayed 2 nights... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
