This hotel has an amazing location. The Acropolis is in the backyard. There is an outdoor restaurant on the fifth floor to enjoy the amazing scene. The food is good as is the service. The hotel is centrally located so convent for the shopping area. The desk was helpful in making all travel arrangements which can be confusing in Greece.... More

We were booked here through a Rick Steves’ tour and it provided a delightful start and end hotel for the tour. Staff were very helpful for questions and allowed us to leave our luggage past checkout time as we made arrangements for post-tour activities. Breakfast buffet was outstanding.

We stayed at the Herodion Hotel, the 4 star sister of its larger, more expensive hotel, the Philippos. They are in the same neighborhood and the level of service appears to be equal. The Herodion is a very clean, modern, cost-effective choice for those who want to stay within walking distance of the Acropolis and the recently opened Acropolis Museum.... More

We stayed for 3 nights. The location is great just down from the Acropolis museum and Plaka. The reception staff were helpful and engaging as were the waiters at breakfast each morning. View from the roof amazing. Highly recommend this hotel for location and it's attention to detail by staff.

Great position close to walking distance to Akropolis and New Akropolis Museum. Excellent staff, very helpful. Small room but not a problem. Plenty of restaurants in the area. All in all and excellent hotel where we will return.

My family of four, mom/dad & kids (11/13 yrs) stayed two nights in this quaint little hotel near the base of the Acropolis and 1 block from the Acropolis Museum. We booked two rooms w/ Acropolis view, 1 w/ twin beds for kids and 1 w/ King bed, but unfortunately when we arrived, the front desk explained they did not... More

The location of the Herodion is excellent, near the Acropolis Museum. The room and bathroom were small, but functional. Staff was helpful, especially with this incident: we took a taxi from the airport and asked the driver if he took credit card (showed him our credit card) and he said yes, but when we got to the hotel, he said... We stayed at Herodion for a week in April 2015. If we go to Athens again, we will go back there in a heartbeat. This place has everything that a traveler might need. Excellent staff first of all! Maria was one great lady helping us with any information, advising , and assisting at all times. Secondly, we enjoyed a wonderful... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
