Charming hotel with perfect location. Our room on the 7th was awesome, great view and large balcony. The room was small but nicely decorated and comfortable. Roof top restaurant with stunning view of the acropolis and serves great breakfast. Elevator was tiny (for two). Would definitely stay at this property next time in Athens.

We had picked this hotel because of a previous visit years ago. It is fantastically located near the Acropolis and the Plaka. It offers great value for the location and is also inclusive of a full hot breakfast on the rooftop restaurant and offers great views of Athens. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and had managed to get... More

Room 707 was the perfect place to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Congratulatory wine nuts awaited our arrival from the airport by metro. The staff was excellent, our favorite restaurant, Manh Manh, is an easy walk and Hertz was next door when we left for the Pelopenese. My husband could observe the Parthanon as he reason the balcony while I examined... More

Great LOCATION! Great VIEW from the rooftop restaurant (actually better than the Hotel Bretagne view). Immaculate, excellent sheets and towels. Breakfast included, with lots of food options. Not an opulent but perfectly comfortable and the staff was very helpful. Bottle of wine and some treats complimentary upon arrival. I would definitely stay here again. If your room faces the street... More

My husband and I stayed at the Athens Gate for 2 nights while travelling with 2 friends. The hotel had a great location. It was right across the Acropolis and a short walk from Syntagma Square. Our rooms had a good view of the Acropolis. The hotel also serves a tasty breakfast at the rooftop restaurant. There is free wi-fi.

We stayed in room 708. Had a wonderful view of the Acropolis from both our balcony and our shower. The breakfast was great. The shower was wonderful with a 3 x 3 window that you could look out at the Acropolis while you were showering. Water pressure was good and hot. Rooms were clean ,spacious. Staff was quite accommodating.

My wife and I recently took a trip to Greece to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. After looking at many hotels in Athens, I chose the Athens Gate Hotel. What an oasis in the middle of the ancient Plaka area of Athens. The rooms come with either a view of the Temple of Zeus or of the Acropolis. I would... More

Nice location surrounded with the views of historical Greece including Acropolis and museum. Popular touristic locations are all 10 minutes walking distance. There was nothing to complain about the hotel but i think it was a little bit overpriced. Rooms were clean breakfast was good and tasty staff helpful

We stayed for just one night after having been on Santorini. The location is excellent - hotel is an easy walk from the Acropolis, Plaka, and the Agora. The bar and restaurant have exquisite views of the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Our room had an enormous balcony with fantastic views. Couldn't have asked for anything better. The... Upon check in we had a problem with one room which they changed right away. Later while we were out they sent an apology note and a gift! That was really nice. The location was awesome, close to the Acropolis , and the museum. We walked around the Plaka every day . Hotel roof top has an awesome view and... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
