I can't imagine why anyone would stay anywhere else in Athens. It is the only hotel with both an Acropolis view and Temple of Zeus view. On a clear day you can also see the port area. You're steps away from the Acropolis museum and hop on/ hop off buses, and the subway. It can be a little noisy on... More

Location is great, just 3 mins walking distance from Acropoli Station, and walkable to Acropolis, museum, plaka etc. Staff are nice and friendly, we stayed in superior room with view, view facing Acropolis is recommended, much better than the temple of olympian zeus. Breakfast at the roof top restaurant is good, view is nice but not much choice of food.

We stayed at the Athen's Gate for the last 4 days of our honeymoon. We were greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine and basket of snacks upon entering our room, always a nice gesture and greatly appreciated by us. This hotel is within walking distance of all of Athen's main attractions, and within walking distance (if you're able-bodied) to... More

We felt at home. Our young boy (14 months) loved his bed.The personel was very helpful. The view from the room was great. The breakfast at the roof garden was both delicious and breathtaking.Although there was a small problem with one of the elevators.

We stayed here for 5 days over the New Year. Its location in the heart of ancient Athens is ideal, and the 360-degree view from the rooftop restaurant/bar and terrace is stunning. The rooms are comfortable, with good showers, and ours had a view of the Acropolis. Meals are all in the rooftop restaurant, which was nice and warm in... More

This property is ideal location in Athens city center. It is between the Temp of Zeus and the Acropolis - with great views of both from the roof top restaurant. Good breakfast buffet. The rooms were kind of cramped.

We chose Athens Gate Hotel based on reviews and were not disappointed. The hotel offers rooms with view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus or of Acropolis. We were given a view of Olympian Zeus and it was the best view we have seen from a hotel. The room is spacious, bed is comfortable and wi-fi is good. Our room... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
