I was disappointed when I arrived late at night at my pre booked hotel the Best Western Pythagorian to be told I had been moved to the Museum property. Once I arrived I wasn't thrilled with the room which has two tiny singles and a shower that washes the whole bathroom. That being said, the staff have been helpful and... More

Located about 5 minutes from the centre it was a good central choice. Family room was spacious enough but very uncomfortable beds, pillows and breakfast was not delicious. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Needs renovating. There are better hotels for your money.

During my stay in Athens and in Greece at all, I noticed that hotels under 5 stars are having the same class. So during my short 2 days stay in Athens I chose Best Western as I know the chain of these hotels in my hometown in Armenia. To be honest I was dissapointed with the hotel. Tiny breakfasts, narrow... Really liked this hotel - friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast for 6 euros, nice little bar area with free orange juice, pretty roof garden - although no bar - with great views of Athens. Our room had a huge balcony attached and the room itself was clean, neutrally decorated and comfortable. We only paid £99 (146 euros) for the two... More

Good and friendly service. The staff is very attentive to your needs and requests. Interesting , lively, and alternative neighborhood. Many restaurants close by. Small but clean rooms. Two metro stops from Syntagma Sq. (25 min walk). 30 minute drive from airport.

Interiors seemed a little outdated and I wasn't thrilled about the elevator shafts that looked like ovens/fridges from the outside. The roof garden was a disappointment. Couldn't see the Parthenon AT ALL. Wouldn't be complaining but you know, they got my hopes up with their poster of the roof garden with a view of the Parthenon on it. Breakfast was... More

A good place to stay near the museums and near the metro. Friendly and helpful staff and the room was very clean and nicely kept. We stayed for 4 nights always to return to a freshly made up room. There is a nice area of cafes, parks and tavenas near by. Arty rather than touristy feel to the immediate neighbourhood.

We arrived early and got our room! Big washroom, refreshments upon arrival and everyday when we returned from sight seeing. Rooftop terrace, excellent for sun bathing, reading and THE VIEW! Very, Very helpful staff and very clean rooms. Walking in the neighbourhood it doesn't give the best impression, but it is safe and great local restaurants with REAL Greek food... More

We stayed here one night after a late night flight from Istanbul. Arrived at the hotel at 1am to find the revolving door boarded up for the night. The clerk quickly opened the door for us and ushered us in. He told us it was safe to walk around the area. We were tired so we went to our room... More

I really don't understand all the negative reviews regarding the area this hotel is situated in. We stayed here before and after our Naxos Island holiday, and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. I was with my family (including my 8 month old daughter), and not once did we feel threatened or that this was a bad neighbourhood. Ok there... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighborhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
