We stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne as the last evening of a long trip. We had a gorgeous suite on the 6th floor overlooking the Parliament building, and I can't imagine a better experience. We toured Athens all day, and it felt like coming home to the Hotel Grande Bretagne. The staff was friendly, helpful, and spoke perfect English.... More

We stayed at the hotel for three days. Hotel is in a great location. Staff are very professional and helpful. The most comfortable bed ever! Stunning views of the Acropolis from the bar on the 8th floor! One touching story - we saw one dog always lying at the main entrance, found out that he used to be a street... More

I recently stayed in Athens view room and now the hotel is my favorite of any in Europe, very modern hotel. Room has a large balcony with the most amazing view to the Acropolis that you can imagine. Service was excellent, I love the restaurant.

A converted mansion, the Grande Bretagne is beautifully located at Syntagma Square in Athens. Arriving at the GB I quickly realized how easy it was to walk to Athens' biggest attractions. Whether it is the old town, the Acropolis, or trendy Kolonakis you are a short walk away. Not to miss the stately parliament right in front, where you witness... More

This review is of afternoon tea (aka 'high tea') in the Winter Garden restaurant on the ground floor of the Grand Bretagne. We had this instead of our dinner, and it was excellent. We ate small toasted sandwiches, scones with cream and three varieties of amazing-tasting jam, plus four small cakes and of course the pot of tea. We added... More

In general this is a high class hotel and overlooking some details in other hotels could be ok, but this hotel is supposed to be really delux. However, the room was very very small. The TV had hardly no channels in English, The mattress was too soft. There is not enough light in the room. They did not have a... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
