We stayed at the Grand Bretagne for 2 nights when first arriving in Greece. The butlers welcomed us and spent the next 3 days hassling Air Canada to get our lost bags delivered. We were pleasantly surprised by the rooftop pool, especially the mint lemonade. Views from the rooftop restaurant are excellent.

This was an amazing hotel. The staff were top notch, professional and friendly. The front desk lady Paraskevi, in particular, was a very helpful and understanding person who helped us settle in and gave us numerous tips about our stay in Athens. Our rooms were beautiful and immaculate. The rooftop where the breakfast buffet was served was simply fantastic. You... More

This hotel so just out of this world pretty. Our room was just as beautiful and the bed so comfy. We had a suite and the hotel sent up a lovely fruit platter ,and water was always by the bed. The view from the top floor restaurant is one to see. You have a perfect place for a photo of... More

I treated my wife, son and myself to a few days here on our holiday - what a good decision. I have stayed in a number of "5 star" hotels in Athens whilst on business and often wondered how they get that rating. Many are tired, smelly with accommodation that I would expect in a 3 or 4 star hotel... More

We spent one night in Athens before heading home, and we could not have chosen a better spot. The hotel is magnificent. Public spaces and rooms are gorgeous; the staff is friendly and responsive; the location is ideal. From the excellent rooftop restaurant is the perfect view of the Acropolis (try the lamb - fantastic). Everyone made our 5 year... More

Paid €358 for a single room for a night with no breakfast and no wi- if. Room had a view at a run down courtyard full of scaffolds and dirt. The only advantage was that I could use the spa to take a shower and change before my departure. They need to offer something for such a price.

This is certainly a boutique hotel and worth the higher than average price when you want to stay in luxury. It is within walking distance of the ruins and it is right at the end of the street for the premiere shopping district. The rooftop pool was nice, windy but great views and amenities. I highly recommend the restaurant on... More

The Grande Bretagne did not disappoint. The location was ideally situated to see the sights of Athens, and the hotel amenities were great. The rooftop restaurant was fantastic, and the view is second to none. The hotel was clean and the staff were wonderful. The pool area did not have a lot of loungers, but we made do. The only... We only stayed here one night on our way through Athens and it was fantastic, room was spacious, beautiful and clean. The hotel was right in the middle of Athens and the staff were all fantastic. Basically we got what we paid for, well worth it, especially dinner and a fantastic breakfast on the roof.

I have been a regular guest in this iconic hotel for over 40 years, and visit around 3 times a year. It is always a pleasure to arrive back at the Grande Bretagne to be welcomed as an old family member by the wonderful staff. After each visit I think that nothing can beat that visit, and not surprisingly, the... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
