Our recent stay at this hotel, July 9, 10, 11, was outstanding and superb!! Our classic room was elegant and charming. Our view of Parliament and Syntagma Square was memorable and one- of - a kind. Yes, politics and free-speech are in full-swing before your eyes, in the square below, but the protests (called gatherings by the hotel) are civilized... More

I stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne for 3 nights in July with my wife and 3 teenagers. What can I say, the hotel is beautiful, the location can't be beat and the staff/service were fantastic. We had 3 rooms all of which were clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The hotel was quiet and the beds were comfortable. The hotel... More

We stayed for 6 nights during a crazy hot, politically tumultuous time this summer. The Grande Bretagne was like an oasis. Beautiful, comfortable, great service and the amenities were fabulous. The rooftop pool is perfect, and the spa and saunas below the hotel were amazing! Neither were crowded when we were there. Their prices are unbelievable for the level of... More

We chose this hotel for our quick two night stay in Athens after completing our island stays in Mykonos and Santorini. We were expecting a little luxury and we were not disappointed. From the moment you arrive, helpful staff are at every turn without being in the way. The lobby is elegant and grand. Check in was a breeze and... More

After 30+ hours of flights it was wonderful to check-in and relax for a couple of days before the rest of our trip. Our room was spotless and amazingly quiet with a view towards the Parliament. Stunning views from the roof bar and a great Aperol Spritz (the first of many!). Small pool but lovely to cool off in after... More

Elegant through and through. The rooms were very nicely appointed, a little small but to be expected in a major city. Our room was an interior room with a courtyard view. Not very nice courtyard so we kept the curtains closed. The beds were incredible, slept like a baby. The catered food for the group functions was just okay, however,... More

Had a few issues on check in but these were sorted out in a short period of time and the front desk were very apologetic and offered free WiFi during our stay and a bottle of wine. You really can't get a better location as everything is close by. Breakfast is on the rooftop with amazing views of the Acropolis.... More

Marvelous true European-style grand hotel. Classic architecture, great location near the Plaka and historic sites. Attentive staff, beautiful rooms, great dining and bar on rooftop restaurant overlooking The Acropolis. We were there before the current issues and walked freely day and night.

I've stayed here multiple times on my visits to Athens and have always been delighted by the service, attention to details and general condition of the facilities. The rooms are very comfortable, with luxurious bedding and cool AC in the summer. The rooftop garden restaurant and bar has the best view of the Acropolis. Staff is very helpful with directions,... We booked this hotel through Costco Travel during our recent Greece family vacation. We stayed here for 2 nights. Excellent place - clean, luxurious, comfortable and convenient. Very happy with customer service. Front desk folks were excellent. Housekeeping was excellent. Good breakfast at the 8th floor restaurant over looking the Acropolis. Walking distance to Plaka and the shopping markets. Recommend... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
