Reasonable solution for price paid. Nothing particularly marvellous and nothing particularly bad. Breakfast if not included in price not worth its price of 3.5€. For me better solution is to have somewhere nearby. Coffee is much better than in the hotel. When packing your luggage bear in mind that to reach first floor the only solution is stairs. If you... Great central location with staff who would do anything to help. Room small but clean and serviced daily. In house breakfast not great value in a country where real orange juice is so available. Close to eateries and tourism info.

Hotel Universal is very easy to get to from the airport. Metro purple line (E) to Trindade station and then one stop on the yellow line (D) to Allados station. The hotel is only 200 metres down the hill. To get to reception you are greeted with about 30 steps. For people with mobility problems there is an electric chair... More

Rainy, crazy day in Porto and never thought we would have a hard time finding a hotel. Well..... not true. We had a tough time and stumbled upon Universal. The room was spartan but the hotel staff was ****** and that made our stay very memorable. She recommended a great place for dinner and made our stay here special. If... More

This hotel is in a great location, strong wifi and cheap. The rooms are dated, beds are hard and its kinda loud at night. But overall this can be overlooked because of the great location. You are just sleeping. We saved the money and had a good meal.

Agree with most comments below; simple but good value. Ask them for a "standard" preferably rear facing room. "Panoramic" sounds cool but looks onto the street and a bell tower that rings on the quarter! Tip..National trains terminate at Campanha stations; for central locations as above, you want Sao Bento. Walk under the platforms and hitch a ride where you... More

Stayed here twice at the beginning and end of our holiday. 1st room small (1 night) 2nd room fine (2 nights) it would compare to a substandard Travelodge. Décor very dated corridors very noisy - wouldn't have liked to stay here longer. But was adequate for our needs. Very unwelcoming entrance as up a steep flight of stairs (lift only... More

Both my husband and I were itching all night. Not sure if irritant in laundry detergent or bugs. I finally got up and slept on top of the bedcover instead and the problem itching went away. Otherwise it was a convenient location, good price for basic hotel. Nice staff at reception. No air conditioning but not extremely noisy with open... More

The hotel is located in the center of Porto and is very close to a subway station (<5 min walking). The train sttion Sao Bento is also 5 min of walk from the hotel. You will also find a supermarked within 5 min. The staff speak english and french and were very kind to us. The rooms are clean and... More

Does what it says on the label..... Keeps you central and your budget down. Spend your money at Cafe Guarany across the avenue! It's small, clean - lots of towels and hot water. Room on 4th floor quiet apart from other guests in corridor. Breakfast reasonable if you ate in a rush. Great views from front rooms! Not posh. Not... More
