Set in a poorer area 5 mins out of the centre this hotel was extremely good. Lots of Porto is poor and falling down especially just out of the centre but that can add to its character. Next door can be a mansion - thats the charm of Porto. The hotel is close to 2 metro stations 1 up a... more

We stayed at the Rio for two nights and the last night of the week in Northern Portugal. The hotel, whilst not in the city centre, is an easy and direct ten minute walk and is on a quiet street, surrounded by local churresquerias and homes. We recently spent one night at the Residencial Grande Rio and at 37 euros per double found it to be good value. This small hotel is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the north of the city centre.
