For just 3 nights, this was a good place to stay. Found it through Trip Advisor. Excellent value for money. Staff multilingual and helpful. We walked everywhere from the Residencial, explored the old town, strolled to the Douro - and used the excellent value the hop-on-hop off buses on the main square round the corner. Restaurants and pubs nearby. Rooms... more

I stayed here for three days with a friend, which is more than enough for Porto, by the way. I think the place is a converted apartment building. As most Portuguese seemed to be, staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and spoke lots of English. The location was great - right outside the old city and off of one of the... more

Took the train from the airport to Aliados station. Great way to travel, only €1.90 and takes around half an hour. The hotel is located on a side street very close to the Metro so it is easy to find. Walking into the hotel the first thing we noticed was the smell - the unpleasant kind you get from a... more

We stayed here because it was central. From this hotel we walked to all major sites, although there was a metro nearby that was easy to use, (we also used it to get in from the airport at a cost of about E1.6? which was really cheap and convenient). The walk to the river was quite steep and on cobbled... more

Stayed a couple of nights in Porto and I enjoyed very much this hotel. It was right at the city center and right next to the metro station, it hed indeed a fantastic location. Excellent price/quality rate. Nice old style building and had a interesting collection of old toys in display. Friendly staff. more

Last month I visited Porto in Portugal. The city is wonderful and the people very nice and friendly. I stayed at Pao de Acucar from Thursday till Saturday. When I tried to book a room I send an e-mail directly to the “Residencial”l because I don’t like to put my credit card details on the Internet and they send me... more

We have stayed in this Hotel twice once in june 2006 for 4 nights and again this month (june2008). and found it to be an excellent place to stop right in the centre, with old style rooms and fittings! but very clean wood oak block type floors, which add to its charm. If you want a bland chain hotel (ie IBIS...)look elsewhere.The... more

Booked the Hotel over the interent over hotels.com.. always the best prices but best to have a look around. Was a bit tricky to find the hotel at first and i had to ask someone for the street with no portuguese at all, which was an experience haha. The hotel is located in the city centre which is great, access... more

My wife and I (who have traveled extensively) spent a VERY unpleasant night, 4-16-08, in this lousy hotel. The first room was so bad, we had to move to a second room...almost as bad. Problems included: Dirty, soiled sheets Filthy floor: looks like it had not been vacuumed or swept in who knows how long Pitiful shower strength…width of a... more
