On my 2nd trip to Porto I promised myself to stay at Pestana Porto Hotel as it was central to everything I did last time I was here and boy oh boy did it not disappoint. I took my wife and kids as well as in-laws for a 3-day/2-night vacation and rented two rooms @ $300 USD per night. The... More

Much to our surprise, when we arrived, the hotel was encased in scaffolding and netting. While the views looking out over the river would be beautiful, we were looking at scaffolding and workmen walking on the scaffolding just inches from our window. The construction noise starts 8 and notices all over warn guests not to open their windows because anyone... More

I had a late night arrival (quite late) and unfortunately my company had problems to finalize the reserve so, yes in Porto at midnight with no room and just after a 400km drive. I was begging for a decent shower and a nice bed so almost panicked. Fortunately the hotel staff was superb, problem solved in a millisecond so I... More

Fortunately we were on the river side that had no obstruction or noise, but it was a shock to see upon arrival. We were told it was due to recent heavy rains. The room however was terribly cramped and my wife and I had limited space to move. The lobby area and upstairs lounge is fine and the breakfast was... More

Unfortunately they are doing a major renovation of the outside of this hotel and it is very noisy when we want a afternoon nap. If we had been advised of this we would have stayed elsewhere. The property itself is well located and very nice and the staff is great.

I spent two nights at this hotel located in the heart of Rebeira on the river. This is a great location if you are willing and able to walk up hills on cobblestones. It is an easy walk across the Douro river where the Port wine cellars are, This is a charming historic hotel. It is small but offered all... More

If you have a booking for this hotel in the next few weeks I strongly urge you to cancel. There are major works being carried out to the exterior of the hotel which means it is covered in scaffolding and protective mesh, and you are likely to be woken by a workman at your bedroom window drilling or hammering. Therefore... More

We stayed at the Pestana for 2 nights on our arrival in Portugal in September 2014. The hotel is in a very central location, and has excellent views over the Douro River to Villa Nova de Gaia, however if you are driving a rental car, it is worth noting that access can be quite tricky! Everything is well within walking... More

In my opinion this is the only place to stay in Porto. It is at the heart of most activities, located on the Douro River with beautiful view of the river and bridges. We were able to walk to interesting spots such as the wine cellars. There are great restaurants close by.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived about 10 on a Sunday morning just as the markets were setting up. Our room wasn't ready however David gave us some advice on what to do and see. A great help. Next day we did the hop on bus hoping to go to the beach but the beaches on this route... More
