As with all these reviews, it really just depends on what your needs our. We were only going to be in Porto for about 24 hours, so this worked really well for our family. We got a great rate and it's in a great location with very good staff. Other than that it is very average accomodations. The beds are... More

We were driving into Porto to meet a small tour pick up in front of the Grand Hotel where we were staying that night. Although we had directions, when we "got lost" and called the hotel, there was a complete lack of communication. Finally the tour guide got our location, called a taxi whom we then followed to the hotel.... More

It all started so well. The receptionist was friendly - telling us we could leave our car in the public car park as they had a deal which meant we would only pay 6 euros per night. Imagine our horrow when we left to be told by another receptionist that they didn't have a deal with this one at all.... More

We stayed for 2 nights at Grande Hotel do Porto, and we considered a good experience, altough our room choice was small (but comfortable). The luxurious environment especially on the ground 0 floor, lecture rooms, restaurants are good reasons to choose this hotel. Great experience.

The public rooms on the ground floor are magnificent. What a shock to get out of the lift on the upper floors and find that the original bedrooms have been replaced by small, possibly pre-fabricated, rooms. Ours was one of the bigger ones, with adequate wardrobe space and a large bathroom, but we looked at two other types on the... More

We stayed here for three nights in April. We arrived in Porto by train from Lisbon and took the metro from Campanhã to Bolhão station. From there it was a short walk down the pedestrianized Rua Santa Catarina to the hotel. Checking in was quick and painless with friendly, courteous staff who spoke excellent English. We were lucky in getting... More

Once grand, now looking it's age but the welcome is friendly if not a little 'Fawlty Towers'! Small rooms which suffer from slightly whiffy Portuguese drains ... strange crackly mattress cover under the sheet, no English language news channel on TV. On the plus side, the location is very central to all the sights and the bread at breakfast is... More

One senses that this was, indeed, the, or one of the, grand hotels of Porto. While the old charm is there, the building is beautiful, the staff are friendly, and the location great, the rooms (if ours was typical) need some work. We didn't mind the small size but the bathroom was very tiny and the water pressure so low... More

We were this week in this beautiful hotel in the centre of Porto. Comfortable rooms, very good breakfast, friendly staff, well located. We were very satisfied. Our son wanted to GO with us at the last moment, that was no problem.

This hotel does have a great location in the centre of town and a short walk to the river. The public areas have 'olde worlde' charm although the chairs in the restaurant need re-padding! The room was disappointing though, very small and plain and no tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was OK, but I've had a lot better. We did though... More
