The hotel is located just outside of the historical center, which is still walkable. Moreover, the important metro-line is a minute away. The hotel exists out of a very cool castle, which is still decorated like that. The very nice and extensive breakfast is here, so you can surely enjoy the setting. Outside is a nice little castle-garden which you... More

We chose this hotel for the available free parking and nearness to the center of the action. It is an oasis in a city, with spacious grounds, lots of green grass and plants. The buildings are old and covered with great Portuguese tiles. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Our room, which must have been the least expensive, was "monk-like" in... More

We were not in a suite. We enjoyed our stay but would have felt a bit stuffed into a small place if we had stayed a second night. That said, the gardens were beautiful as the sun set with views over the city. The staff had great manners and were exceptionally helpful. It is old school, which is part of... More

We booked three nights here in a suite in the tower and the room was excellent. Decorated in antiques throughout, there was ample room and storage space and a very comfortable bed. Other reviewers seem to criticise the size of the other rooms but I believe you get real value for money here. The grounds are also large and well... More

The room we had was horrible. That said they were beginning a renovation the day we checked out, Bathroom impossibly small and marginal Bed (twin) had damp sheets YUCK. Again, great staff but I'd really inquire about room I was booking and would not stay there again. Garden lovely though

We checked in here for three nights in September 2014 following a recommendation from another hotel owner in nearby Coimbra. The Castelo is located at the top of a long shopping street and a long walk uphill from the train station. Take the metro to Marques, it is infinitely easier. The place itself is lovely and in really nice grounds... More

There is no doubt this is a beautiful boutique hotel. The staff are wonderful, the location is great, the gardens gorgeous, the included breakfast was really good, the hotel very pretty. Why then, you are asking only 3*'s? Well the room. It was so incredibly small (about 10 feet x 12 feet) with a queen bed, an armoire, one chair,... More

This hotel is well worth a visit. Its decor was incredibly beautiful throughout, from the furniture to the original wallpaper and marble stairway. My partner and I spent most evenings drinking wine in the large garden before heading out for the night. The hotel is on the top of a hill which some people may struggle with but we did... More

A really enjoyable stay at this unusual place. Set back from a main road in Porto, and up a drive and flight of stone steps, is this castle-like tower, set amid beautiful gardens. We were given a warm welcome and all the staff were very warm and friendly, and also helpful with queries about transport and restaurants. I've slept in... More

our first night was in a peasant abode - complete with mildew and old bathroom. But our second night they upgraded us a grand room in the main castle which is a world of difference! It cost only a few euro more, but it was worth much more in atmosphere and appearance. Funny that there is no bathroom door, but... More
