This blue tiled castle converted to a hotel at the top of the the well known commercial street, Rua da Santa Catarina, has all the charm of old Porto, but with modern conveniences. The hotel is set in delightful gardens with a terrace. My spacious, modern room was in a new section of the hotel - a beautiful, spacious room... More

This is NOT a modern, trendy hotel -- but it IS an amazing place to stay in Porto. It has character, charm, beauty and was very comfortable. The older rooms in the castle tower are small but charming, with modern bathrooms. The common areas are furnished in beautiful period furniture, with ornate wood carvings and decorations on walls and ceilings.... More

Yes, this is an authentic and lovely cluster of old buildings and there is a good parlour / sitting room. But that's where the positives ended for us. Our room's decor (room 121 in the 'castle') was very 'grandma' - which didn't appeal to us but was not a problem except that it was the size of grandma's broom closet... More

Stayed in the new block - quiet, comfortable, clean. Excellent helpful staff. Close to metro (up the hill, in park with great cafes - try the cakes!) Easy walk into centre. Breakfast only in central block - may be a problem for those wanting full service hotel - but not for us. Would stay again.

Bizarre building at the very scruffy top end of Rua do Santa Catarina, which is a high-end shopping street 2km further down towards the river. Hotel has its own parking, excellent staff, blue and white tiles everywhere, and is a warren of small rooms and tiny corridors. Feels like a Marie Antoinette film set but was built by local textiles... More

From the description of our travel agency we expected a cosy historic hotel. This is only partially correct. Next to the historic house they added in the park-like property some quite puristic looking outhouses with some extra rooms. We got one of the rooms in such a building. The room was almost new and close to spotlessly clean. The interior... More

We booked the royal suite in the tower; no elevator but that was OK. The room was excellent, with an authentic 19th century feel. Antiques, original tiles and painted ceilings. 2 rooms with massive wood carved bed, dressers, armoire. Beautiful old-fashioned fixtures in large bathroom. The staff was great, the tiles on the old buildings so impressive. Breakfast excellent. We... More

I booked 1 night as a stop over. This was a mistake I should have booked 2 nights or more. What a treat. We stayed in a garden room. Wonderfully modern and clean. Loved the tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Staff really helpful advised us to use the metro 4 stops into town. Breakfast good too. A... More

We had 4 nights in a room inside the castle. This hotel has a unique charm. Yes, it is a castle, a small one, with a lovely décor and garden. As you enter the garden gate from the street it's like you are in a different place all of a sudden! Everything is clean and quiet and lovely. We had... More

What a haven. What an exotic historic treat. Built as a hotel to house South American trade partners in the 1860s. Furniture and decor amazing. Good breakfasts and lovely grounds.you can walk into the busy city and return on the metro to this beautiful old tiled oasis.
