We stayed here as a group of 11, but I'd be happy to return on my own or as a couple. The staff were incredibly friendly and quick to dispense useful advice. The breakfast was perhaps a tiny bit lacking, but it was enough to get us on our way each morning. The evening meal, which we enjoyed on our... More

This place gets it right on all counts! The location is perfect...out of the touristy old quarter but in a lively and well-connected area; the most lovely building, inviting communal spaces, and large individual rooms. Maybe best of all though are the hosts. Everyone we met was engaging and interested in chatting and helping with recommendations. If you are a... More

Having backpacked and flashpacked around the world this is one of the best hostels I have stayed at. We stayed in a double rooom. Staff were awesome. The place is relaxed, clean and more like a hotel than a hostel! Would highly recommend to backpackers and / or those heading to Porto for a holiday break.

This hostel is overall fantastic. You will not regret staying here. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and not too in-your-face if you don't want to be their best friends. The optional hostel activities are wonderful, diverse, and affordable. I highly recommend participating in the common dinner, you get more than your money's worth of delicious, gourmet food and good... More

All the staff without exception were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The location in the art district is perfect. Only a short walk to the tram station. The evening meal was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. Would definitely recommend to anyone and hope to return some day.

This was one of the best hostels I stayed at during my Eurotrip. Unfortunately, we were only able to stay there one night because we didn't book ahead of time (learn from my mistake!) Why I liked it: The place was spectacularly clean, had great views and a great location, the staff was very friendly, and the hostel itself has... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in May- we wished we could have stayed longer! Found it a little difficult to find walking from the train station so you do need a map. When we checked in, there had been an error in the booking and our private room was not available. It worked out perfectly though... More

Dear Vicki, Thank you very much for your kind review! It is alwyas a challenge when the system turns against us but thankfully we had the attic room available, which is one of the most requested ones by our repeating guests :)! Regarding the seagulls noises, apparently we have a nest with a few newborns... hopefully they will be flying... More

first of all thank you Gallery hostel! We spend five nights with a group of 28 people from 20th april till 25th. Really great hostel, with great people and nice rooms with good beds. Nothing more to say, just go and experience for yourself! Greetings from the University of Rotterdam of Applied Science. ps: The bar is open 24/7 !!

This place is wonderful. My stag party attendees had our own corridor of 2-3 berth rooms with an adjacent roof terrace. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic and were very helpful. The walking tour is good and it is free. The common areas are all very comfortable and well equipped - the TV with comfy chairs was very good at... More

Right from our arrival at this hostel, we knew our stay would be unlike any hostel we'd been at before! The staff were incredibly friendly, and offered to tour us around the facilities and tell us about the city upon check-in. The attention and service was better than even some of the fanciest hotels I have stayed at before. The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Gallery Hostel is set in a privileged area of Oporto, known for its art galleries and modern shops, at a walking distance from the main points of interest in the city centre such as museums, monuments, gardens, restaurants and bars. Located in Rua Miguel Bombarda, the Hostel is established in an historical building with more than 100 years old, which just went through a renewal in order to respond to our guest’s needs and expectations. With high standards of comfort and carefully decorated, you will find a familiar and cosy atmosphere, complemented by a multilingual and professional team. Composed by several types of rooms, the Gallery Hostel is divided in two sections. You can choose between staying in the main building in a 6 or 4 people bedroom, or in one of our Garden Suites, always offering a privileged privacy. In the main building, each room is named after the most renowned artists of Oporto such as Sophia Mello Breyner, Almeida Garrett, Julio Resende, Silva Porto, Siza Vieira and Souto Moura. Also creating an original feeling of the city and enhancing local culture, the Garden Suites are named after the main Oporto city parks (Cordoaria, Botânico, Serralves and Palácio de Cristal). Our services and common areas have also been developed in order to satisfy any need the guest might have. You can choose listening to music and drink Portuguese wine in our Lounge Bar, watch a DVD in our Movie Theatre or play a game, surf on internet or read a book in our Library, have a chat or chill out in our interior gardens, enjoy a meal in our open kitchen and breakfast area, between others. ... more   less
