We spent three nights at Alvares Cabral Guest House. Is cosy, extremely clean and close to the public transport. The owner, who welcomed us, is really kind and speaks several languages, which is great. Each room is differently decorated in an original and classic Portuguese way. The house is placed in a good area, has a nice kitchen where u... More

Location, location, location: Alvares Cabral is close to the metro that connects to the airport and within a 10 minute walk from all major sights and things to do. It's not only about the location though, the guest house itself is top-notch. You get a warm, personal welcome and are provided with everything you need: a little history of the... More

Me and my boyfriend loved the place. It's very clean, the staff is nice and the furniture is incredible. The owner knows a lot about the Portuguese History of navigations and told us a bit about the room we stayed "Cabo da Boa Esperança". They serve free wine from Porto and allowed to leave my luggage there while I went... More

We spent three nights here. It was a great location for us - close enough to walk even to Vila Nova de Gaia (all downhill - the walk back was a bit rough), but far enough away that it was quiet at night. Staff was friendly, room was clean, and they have a kitchen available for their guests to use.... More

We stayed four nights at the Alvares Cabral Guest House just after Christmas. It's a characterful house, and the first room we stayed in, Atlantico, had characteristic high ceilings. The issue was that the bathroom, on the building's outer edge, had very little thermal insulation and was invariably freezing. The doors had to be kept closed, giving the room a... More

A friend and I, travelling on a student budget, stayed here for 3 nights. The staff was very friendly, and gave us a great map detailing routes to go in the city with restaurant and site recommendations. It was easy to get to from the airport and easy to get to the city centre from here. Comfortable rooms and a... More

Stayed for four nights, sampling two different rooms. Spotless and very comfortable with superb hospitality. 30 minutes from airport (euro 2.35) on Metro, get off at Lapa, 10 minute walk - about two blocks. Easy walk to most sights, simple bus ride to beach. Rooms higher up are lighter, rooms at the back are quieter. But you will not be... More

We stayed there for 3 nights. It's excellent value for money in the center of Porto. Room was clean, of a good size. The bed was a bit soft to our liking. The owners are really welcoming and nice. They gave us directions and places to visit in Porto. The street is paved so it's a bit noisy.

Hi! Thank you very much for your comment! We really strive to provide a pleasant and comfortable stay to our guests. In regards to the noise of the street, we can't change the road pavement but we are installing step by step double windows as well as insulation inside the rooms that face the street. We have also been talking... More

This is not a fancy hotel, but if you are after a nice traditional stay in an old guest house, this is for you. The rooms are old and in some corners it shows, but they are very clean and the family/staff provide everything to make your stay memorable. The breakfast is very basic but nice with home made jams... More
