OK, I am ruined for other guest houses. Thanks a lot, Carmen and Joao! Yes, as others have mentioned, the rooms are fantastic, albeit a bit small, but they have everything you could want plus some lovely touches like fresh flowers and charming but not overdone decor. Joao and Carmen have wonderful senses of humor and they treat you like... More

We read all the great reviews on Trip Advisor and saw it recommended in the Rick Steve's book as well. All the fabulous reviews are true. The bed is comfortable the linens are high quality, a bathrobe to snuggle in, great shower, wonderful view of the Douro River that even in the rain was delightful. We had great touring advice... It just does not get any better. Joao and Carmen are the perfect hosts. Our stay at Guest House Douro was wonderful, but now every time my wife come homes she wants a glass of port, which really is a pretty good idea., stay and you'll see what I mean. The location is great, literally just steps away from wonderful... More

A small group of us went to Porto on a wine tasting trip. Carmen, Sonia, and Joao were great hosts. They treat you more like family than paying guests. They know a lot of great restaurants that have great food, service, and not crowded with tourists. For first timer Port guests, they know all the great places you need to... More

We fell madly in love with Porto... (I didn't know what to expect really, even the pictures I'd seen didn't quite capture all of its charms) One of the main reasons for the love affair was that we chose to stay at Guest House Douro. Everyone here was wonderful, including Sonia who welcomed us to town so warmly on a... More

I stayed for four nights with my husband in September 2014. Great location. Room was fairly small but very well laid out and had a great view. Breakfasts were great and Carmen and Joao were super helpful in making reservations and giving recommendations for things to do in Porto. Highly recommend Guest House Douro.

What’s good: location, location, location – if you want to be in the middle of the happening part of Porto it’s hard to imagine how you could do any better. Almost everything that must be seen or experienced in Porto is walkable from here and you are spoiled for dining choices within a single block. The place is surgically clean... More

The guest house Douro is right on the river front with views of the boats and Gaia. The riverfront action quiets down around 10:30. The windows are so good that it is practically sound proof. I would not stay any place else but there. Small rooms but clean and modern. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was... More

This is a beautifully renovated and decorated small inn on the riverfront, convenient to nearly everything you want to see in the city as well as to the places where you just want to hang out and relax. The owners are charming and welcoming, are free with intelligent advice, and take the initiative in making reservations and other arrangements. Breakfast... More

We recently spent two days in Porto and stayed at the Guest House Duoro. It is a wonderful place to stay while in Porto. It is located in the Riberia area, along the riverfront. It is within walking distance of everything: Porto sights, as well as the bridge that connects you to Gaia, where the port lodges are located. The... More
