This beautifully restored guesthouse is right on the quays, within walking distance to Porto's attractions, charming restaurants and just across the bridge to the port warehouses. We stayed here 4 weeks ago and Carmen and Juan were wonderful hosts. They made fantastic restaurant recommendations (and bookings) and were always there, ready with a coffee or a port! They even made... More

Staying at the Guest House Douro was a fabulous experience. It was like staying with family - the highly functioning, supportive kind. Carmen and Jao are excellent hosts and everything was done to perfection. The rooms were immaculately clean. The breakfast was fabulous and well presented, and the hosts gave us some great ideas about what to do and see... More

Thank you very much to the super hospitable and friendly hosts Carmen and Juan! They did a marvellous renovation to a UNESCO protected building. The bed is super comfy, the breakfast is healthy, the location is perfect, and Porto is a wonderful city to visit. I wish we had more time to stay!!! Thanks heaps guys!

Everything about Guest House Douro was fantastic from the moment we arrived. (Actually, even before we arrived as Carmen helped us secure a restaurant reservation weeks in advance.) Everyone we met on staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is located on a beautiful, small street in a historic part of the city near restaurants, historical sites, and shopping.... More

I cannot say enough about this guest house and it's lovely, friendly owners. The room we stayed in 402 was not large but sufficiently big enough to be comfortable and the beautiful views over the river made up for it. The guest house is classy and the decor excellent, the breakfast room is lovely as were the superb breakfasts we... More

A truly lovely small hotel in the historic part of Porto, overlooking the river; comfortable, beautifully decorated and expertly run by the owners: Carmen and Joao. Rooms are small but comfortable and, on the river-side, with a fabulous view. The only "downside" is limited cupboard space to unpack into.. Breakfasts are perfect, as is the advice provided by Carmen and... More

Yes rooms on the small side but what do you expect in historic Porto and the location, friendliness and welcome from Carmen and Joao is second to none. A real gem in a fabulous location with fantastic hosts for whom nothing appears too much trouble. You will be disappointed if you don't stay here.

We stayed for 7 nights, 7 to 14 June and loved every moment of our stay with Carmen and Joao at Guest House Douro. A truly memorable experience, making it a highlight of our whole 6 week trip. The warmth and generosity shown by Carmen and Joao is truly first class. I could easily have stayed at Guest House Douro... More

We stayed at the Guest House Duoro for 3 nights in early June 2014. It was recommended by Rick Steve and he was absolutely correct. The location was ideal, the rooms were immaculate and well decorated, and the owners, Carmen & Joao, were the best hosts. They made us feel right at home and helped us plan our sightseeing as... We stayed 3 nights in early June. I can only restate what other reviewers have said. This is a superb Guest House. It is centrally located along the river. The rooms, with views of the river and port houses, are superbly decorated and well maintained. The real keys are the hoists, Joao and Carmen. From the moment that you enter... More
