The B&B is perfectly located next to the Douro's waterside with view on the Ponte Luiz and close to excellent restaurants. You can visit old Porto from there by foot. Our room was great, perfectly cleaned and the bed was a dream. Carmen and João are very caring and friendly hosts. They give very good tips and did the restaurant... More

We should have known when Carmen emailed us before our arrival suggesting as our flight was long and late she could book a restaurant for us to eat at when we arrived. And of course when the flight was delayed we should have known she had contacted the restaurant and they were still holding our table and kept the kitchen... More

We loved our stay at Guest House Douro. The comfortable bed, wonderful hosts and staff, fabulous views, and the excellent location together gave the most relaxing and enjoyable time. Loved the breakfast with fresh fruit platter. And great recommendations for restaurants etc which we appreciated. Definitely recommend.

A JEWEL IN SO MANY WAYS! This fine guest house and its owners Carmen and Joao made our trip to Porto magical. First--This historic building is exactly where you want to be during your stay in Porto. It's located on the magnificent Douro River, on a historic street--right in the middle of the action--and yet the rooms are peaceful retreats.... More

We were 2 couples traveling together and were lucky enough to have spent 4 wonderful nights here! We loved Porto and we loved Carmen and Joao! The renovation of this historic building is amazing, yes the rooms are small, but everything is well planned. Views are fabulous from the front rooms. Joao recommended a local Taberna in Gaia after our... More

Carmen and Joao run a spectacular place with extraordinary warmth and generosity. They helped plan two wonderful days for us in Porto and even arranged a last minute fishing expedition by getting a rod/reel from a neighbor for us to use. Breakfast is beyond words, especially if you enjoy fruit.

I read the review here written by someone who felt that while Guest House Douro was immaculately clean, offered a perfect location and had two, lovely hosts, they got the impression that they were expected to be the perfect guests and that the hosts were only accommodating so long as certain rules were followed. I, too, had a similar experience;... More

Our party of four stopped in Porto for one night en route from Spain to Lisbon. Wish we had stayed longer! We loved Porto, and Guest House Douro. Carmen and Joao are wonderful hosts. Carmen answered my many questions via email. Joao greeted us when we arrived by overnight train and showed us spots on the map despite the early... More

I was touring Porto on my own, and consider myself so lucky to have stayed with Carmen & Joao at Guest House Douro. The rooms are immaculate and extremely comfortable, and the B&B is located right in the heart of the historic district. Carmen and Joao made sure that I had reservations for dinner each night (good thing since lots... More

Guest House Duoro may have a somewhat deceptive name. In some parts of the world, a guest house suggests a low end lodging. But, Guest House Duoro is a fantastic, elegant find right in the medieval part of Porto, overlooking the river and the active quay. Carmen and Joao, the hosts and owners, are truly lovely people. I welcomed their... More
