The guest house Douro is right on the river front with views of the boats and Gaia. The riverfront action quiets down around 10:30. The windows are so good that it is practically sound proof. I would not stay any place else but there. Small rooms but clean and modern. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was... More

This is a beautifully renovated and decorated small inn on the riverfront, convenient to nearly everything you want to see in the city as well as to the places where you just want to hang out and relax. The owners are charming and welcoming, are free with intelligent advice, and take the initiative in making reservations and other arrangements. Breakfast... More

We recently spent two days in Porto and stayed at the Guest House Duoro. It is a wonderful place to stay while in Porto. It is located in the Riberia area, along the riverfront. It is within walking distance of everything: Porto sights, as well as the bridge that connects you to Gaia, where the port lodges are located. The... More

We felt totally at home with Carmen and Joao. They are professional, yet relaxed and lighthearted. Their suggestions for activities and restaurants were right on target and they pampered us throughout our stay. The breakfast was one of the most delightful I have ever experienced with a beautiful and delicious selection of fruit, meats, cheeses, breads and pastries. As if... More

I would echo the comments of a recent reviewer who correctly pointed out that from the initial communication with Carmen regarding a reservation, I was just sure this was going to be good. My adult daughter and I were planning to spend a couple of nights in Porto. I contacted Carmen in the evening from the States. The next morning,... More

I knew that visiting Porto and staying with Carmen and Joao was going to be a wonderful experience. It was even better. Rare souls with wit and warmth who have opened a most intimate, beautifully located Guest House. The selection of fruits, pastries etc was presented so beautifully and of the highest quality. Every place they recommended from Gra hams... More

Carmen and Joao were helpful from the moment I inquired about making a reservation to my departure. They had good advice about touring and made excellent restaurant recommendations The hotel is lovely and in a perfect location by the river. Breakfast is delicious! I had a wonderful three-day stay here.

Just returned from Portugal for our 44th anniversary and what a treat to have spent 4 nights in this lovely place. Carmen and Joao felt like old friends who treated us dearly and made our stay a special one. Joao's breakfast was a masterpiece and Carmen's suggestions for dinners were right on. Every place they sent us gave us special... More

Guest House Douro has certainly set the mark for our Portugal/Spain holiday. From the moment you enter the inn till the time you leave you are in the hands of two very competent hoteliers and their staff. The inn in located on the river so the ambiance is a 10. But more important is the attention to detail and your... More
