Really beautiful place, in an old convent but renivated on a very high standard. Nice and very big room. Nice location - on a hill overlooking the city but calm at night. Very good service. To be recommended! more

We arrived to Guimaraes under GPS instructions. We climbed a hill and as it was getting late, the GPS announced: "you have arrived" ... except there was nothing on that hill....Fortunately a police car drove nearby and we waved it. The very helpful policemen told us to follow them down hill and then up another hill. We did and made... more
I've stayed with my husband in this hotel on the first weekend of 2007, for a "romantic new years beggining". When we saw the magnificent building, we were very surprised. It is really beautifull, located on the top of a hill near the lovely city of Guimaraes. After reading the other reviews of Tripadvisor, I was waiting to find an... more
We visited Guimares during one of the Summer festivals so everywhere was a blaze of lights and decorations which looked very colourful at night. The town itself is a typical mix of good, bad and ugly. The historic centre has a lot of charm with some fabulous architecture, traditional tiled (azulejos) buildings and landmarks. Much of the outskirts are quite... more
The weather was horrible on arrival and the Pousada gave us a warm welcome. The building is worth a visit itself, loaded with history and beauty, comfortable and well preserved. The surroundings, specially the further zone of the garden are magnificent. Views are fantastic. Seems like an excellent place to go with kids in the summer when the pool is... more
One of the best places we have ever stayed. So much history, culture and charm. more
If you ever wonder what it was like to live in a monastery the you should definitely go to this pousada. Pousada Santa Marinha da Costa used to be an ancient monastery that was transformed into a pousada in 1985. Besides the bedrooms (ancient cells), you can admire the beatiful rooms of the monastery, decorated with museum pieces as well... more
I have stayed here many times on business trips and it is consistently superb. Ask for one of the rooms on the 5th floor, these are more traditional and cosy. Breakfast buffet is exceptional, and the hotel restaurant is good for regional specialties. The staff are efficient and friendly. more
Wow, what a place. Stayed two nights and it was fantastic. Service A-1 pools two and what a view. Rooms unbeliveable. Meals first class and reasonable. Sitting in your room looking out across the valley was spectacular. Rent a car driving is easy and you will need it to go to the Super Mercado, so much wine so little time!!... more
Almost graded it excellent - certainly outstanding. A beautiful setting (lovely, extensive, grounds at the back, some of this running to wild and very atmospheric) and an imposing building. The interiors are grand with long, austere corridors and beautifully furnished, clean and comfortable rooms. The restaurant was also impressive and its staff friendly and attentive, though the menu was rather... more
