We were disappointed having booked the Pousada based on high TA ratings. We booked a superior historic room and were shown a somewhat austere, univiting room next to a noisy service room/elevator. Comfortable it was not - I would hate to have seen the inferior historic rooms! Having articulated our displeasure, we were shown one of the modern rooms which... More

The Pousada is a wonderful old monastery cum modern hotel, rooms are small, beds are a bit hard, but you really feel like you are back in the 12th Century. It is beautifully decorated, with quiet courtyards and a pool area. It is quite a drive up a hill out of town of Guimares, but it is easy to park... More

I stayed with my wife and my daughter for three nights. We loved it. The staff is impeccable and always friendly. The waiter at the breakfast after the first day already knows what we want to drink. The room was huge and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was also big and with good amenities. The two showers were great... More

We spent two nights here and it was lovely. Our room was huge (on the lower level) and had a big raised area for sitting. But it had a roll-away bed and only one chair. The hotel was sold out and I asked to have the bed removed and another chair brought to us. They couldn't take the bed away... More

Rooms were previously Jesuit cells. They are small and the beds uncomfortable. There was always a man at the reception who could speak English. The beautiful young ladies at the reception only could speak Portuguese. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and the ladies and man spoke English and French.

We drove to the Pousada from Porto Airport, a leisurely drive on non-toll roads with plenty of places to pull over for a bite to eat. The impressive frontage of the attached church that greets you is awe inspiring, the grandeur continues inside. We chose bed and breakfast in the historic rooms and were not disappointed as we walked along... More

We spent our first two nights in Portugal at this hotel and we were delighted. We arrived very early after an international flight and the staff was very accommodating with our arrival. The building is beautifully restored and very quiet. The dining areas were lovely, the room was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. Guimaraes is a charming town,... More

Only positive things to report about this beautiful monastery conversion. Our room, in the new part of the building, was large and luxurious, with a complimentary bowl of fruit, chocolates on the pillow and monogrammed fine cotton sheets. We didn't eat in the restaurant at night, but breakfast was wonderful: limitless selection of meats, cheeses, breads and pastries and a cooked... More

We only stayed one night a Saturday, when the hotel was full. It is a stunningly beautiful building, has very helpful staff, an excellent menu in the dining room with great service. Oh the chateaubriand steak...The town has a lovely old part, well worth the visit. However the bed in our room was only 5ft wide and desperately uncomfortable. The... More

I cannot rate this place too highly. One of the best places we have ever stayed in.The setting on a hill above an interesting old town is lovely, the buildings, staff, food and wine all exceptional. The rooms are large and well appointed but you do need to stress a double rather than twin bed if you want one. The rooms... More
