This is a very beautiful and calm b&b house situated in the marvelous garden where breakfast is served in the morning and where you can enjoy spectacular view over Funchal. I can confirm bad condition of bed which was jumping and I couldn´t sleep well. Parking is very safe, behind gate. This place is not near to Funchal center. It... More

This is a delightful, tiny property with perhaps 5 rooms. The garden is great, staff was wonderful. It's quite remote from town, 25 minute walk in, however bus service runs very near by. Mornings & evenings there was rather a bit of dog barking noise. found we couldn't beat sunset from the garden. Breakfast was ok. Staff very friendly in... More

If you're travelling to Madeira as a couple, wanting to stress off and relax in beautiful surroundings, Quinta São Goncalo is the perfect accommodation. Situated in a part of Funchal, where you hardly ever see any other tourists than the other few staying here, you are far away from the world of hotel chains, international concepts and designer smartness. We... More

I am actually in the middle of my week's stay here and would highly recommend staying here. The rooms are large, spotlessly cleaned by Rita's staff and it is very peaceful. Rita is very helpful with advice etc and the lounge are plenty of guides on Madeira in several languages. The lounge is just as the family was still living... More

I can only reiterate what other contributors have said about this guest house. It is stunning with superb views in a quiet location. The house keeper Vitalina runs the house like clockwork and worked so hard to make our stay a good one. We enjoyed our stay and I give it top marks but want to point out a couple... More

Stayed here for 5 nights at the funchal end of the island. Lovely quiet place with loads of space and superb garden, breakfasts on the patio each morning. Staff very helpful, didnt see much of the owner Rita but no complaints. Very well placed either for getting out in the countryside (our preferred option), or into Funchal. Good to relax... More

My husband and I just spent a wonderful week at Quinta Sao Goncalo!! As soon as the taxi driver drove through the lovely big gates we knew this place was very special. Rita greeted us warmly and our room was perfect - with views overlooking Funchal and the harbour. It was lovely watching the cruise ships pass and of course... More

Third time in Madeira - So My Partner Geoff and I have travelled round the whole beautiful Island several times - However on this trip we ventured no furthur than Funchal. and this is entirely due to the superb hospitality we received from three great ladies - Rita , Vitalina and Maria who looked after us so well in such... This is a lovely family home, in a quiet part of Funchal, but on the bus route and only 10 mins from the centre by car. Secluded, quite a large garden, overlooking the bay, with a verandah outside on which sumptuous breakfasts were served in the pleasant March sunshine. Rita & Filipe are assiduous in their effort to make everyone... More

We stayed a week in March 2013, our first visit to Madeira, and QSG was a great choice. It's a comfortable and modestly elegant family country house, the family home of Rita, the owner (the bedroom we stayed in at first was her bedroom as a child). We then moved to the "mini-suite", a larger room with a larger bathroom... More
