Like others, at first wondered why I had booked, but by the end of the first day we were relaxed, looking over the town with a glass of wine on the balcony. We had the attic room, sun in the morning from 8am. The best view, watched the cruise ship come in. Service was excellent, although most speak no English... More

Sitting high above the centre of Funchal in a quiet area - apart from barking dogs at night - the hotel provides comfortable accommodation and off-street parking. The hotel bar only does toasted sandwiches so for evening meals you have to go downhill to the town as there are no restaurants nearby. After eating the steep climb back is great... More

An excellent base for a week in Madeira. Close enough to the Old Town up on the hill. Overlooking the harbour from the pool for a bit of cruise-liner spotting. The staff are amazing, thank you Micaela and Magdalena

Just returned from a week here and would happily come again. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly - Micaela is an absolute star. The rooms were clean, tidy and very comfortable. Breakfast was always served with a smile and varied each day. It is a bit of a trek going up the hill, but the thought of a... More

We had a lovely stay here for 12 nights in March. The staff are all lovely especially the helpful Micaela. The delightful lady serving breakfast was so sweet. We had room 202 with a little kitchenette which meant we didn't have to eat out every night. The walk up from town was worth every step for the views from our... More

My first impression - perhaps due to arriving late at night - was that the Pina was a little tired, but after a day or so I came round to the view that this place is actually astonishingly good value. We spent a week there, and were very sad to leave. The staff were outstanding, especially the super-helpful Micaela on... More

My wife and I recently spent a week here and thought it wonderful. Situated around a 15 minute walk to the town centre the walk is not too difficult though we did take a taxi on the return. Allow the taxi to run on the meter the charge will be around 4/6 euros, agree a price before will be a... More

Had a lovely ten days here. Room spacious and very clean, with great views of the harbour. All staff extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast very filling with lovely selection of fresh rolls every morning, served by a lovely friendly lady. Do have to go up a hill to hotel, but advantage is the lovely views and... More

Based on the Tripadvisor reviews we booked the Pina, and we were quite happy with the outcome. The accomodation is basic to say the least, but it is a wonderful location close to the centre of town. If you want the concrete jungle that could be anywhere in the world, then opt for the tourist area at the Lido, but... More

This small, family run hotel suited us perfectly. Located on a hill (where isn't!?) but not so far that we couldn't at least walk down to town and the myriad of restaurants. A taxi back was around 5 Euros so didn't break the bank. The en-suite rooms were large and spotless, the staff ever-friendly and helpful, the small pool with... More
