A pension with distinct overtones of Maigret. The place has a faded elegance and must have been a significant building in the city in its day. Nowadays the ground floor is occupied by city centre shops so the accommodation starts on the first floor reached up a long flight of stairs. The climb is a long one because the rooms... more

We booked for one week arriving 1st January, which is a holiday. We had a large room accessed from a side street. There were three single beds, large wardrobe, table, chairs & settee, plus a two ring cooker and full size fridge. It was very clean, and linen changed every other day. The utensils were a little basic so a... more

The Americana is a set of apartments rather than an hotel, and as such lacks a conventional reception. The manager can be contacted by intercom, which for us was only necessary on first arrival. Our studio room was spacious, with high ceilings. It contained ensuite bathroom, kitchen facilities and a living area. All was clean. The standard of accommodation was... more

For what we wanted - somewhere reasonably comfortable at a good price right in the centre of town - 50 yards from Cathedral this was a good deal. The studio was more like a bedsit - large room with a two ring cooker, fridge and separate bath/shower. Breakfast was extra but given the facilities was not required - restaurants are... more

Me and my husband stayed there for 5 nights at the end of March 2008, on room only basis. They do offer breakfast as well but the only inconvenient is that the breakfast room is really small, so we had breakfast every morning in one of the many eateries around the hotel. From the moment I booked I knew what to expect... more

The hotel is absolutely great! Far from the touristic area in Lido , a 20 minute walk away from the city centre which was just what I was avoiding, Residencial Americana is right in the middle of the old town, behind the cathedral and the Santander Lotto Bank. (Largo do Chafariz) surrounded by shops and lots of things to do,... more

We had a great experience staying at the Residencial Americana. It has all the basics we needed: central location, personal bathroom, clean, and friendly. It also had some added perks: a small refrigerator in the room, a balcony, complimentary continental breakfast, and full line of cable TV channels. Granted, it does not have: an elevator, large rooms, 24 hour desk... more

We booked in here on the internet, and stayed for one week. It is very centrally situated, close to the Cathedral, shops and restaurants. The room was tiny ( believe they are all similar), but it was extremely clean and serviced daily with clean towels etc. This is a very low cost establishment, but if all you need is a simple room... more
