We stayed as part of a Thomson holiday package for 7 nights. The holiday was good value, and the hotel was pleasant enough, but nothing outstanding. The room was clean and comfortable, and the pool area was also nice and quiet. The hotel was also in quite a convenient location. They provide a shuttle to Funchal town throughout the daytime,... Madeira is a beautiful island & the people are lovely. I've had a fantastic holiday apart from the hotel. Ok...it's only 3 star & up until tonight I would have said, 'you get what you pay for.' However, my already noisy room (overlooks busy road & carpark) just got worse. It also overlooks the function room where a private party... More

There are clearly mixed reviews for the Buganvilia but our July stay was very pleasant and considering the whole stay cost us only £250 for a double room bed and breakfast for 7 nights it is cracking value. You can't stay at home for less money! Anyone who expects Reid's Palace levels of luxury should expect to pay £300 a... More

Just returned from here and would never stop there again. The rooms are very dated and tired and in need of new flooring. The breakfast was disgusting and inedible, the eggs were like rubber and the jam looked like vomit. Definately not a 3 star hotel. The only good pointers about the hotel was the indoor pool, spa, Jacuzzi and... More

there were 3 hotels that belonged to same group of hotels think the 3 stars were giving to all 3, this hotel made the travelodge in the uk more like 3 stars. When arrived all we heard were the french as the week progressed about 80% of the guests were french, 10% german, 5% english, 5% other i thing he... More

This was a last-minute booking as we struggled to find anywhere we could afford until a local travel agent suggested Madeira. So glad we went. We chose this 3 star hotel over an offered 4 star as the reviews and pictures looked on a par and the 4 star was on a main road. We were pleasantly surprised. Although a... More

This hotel is in a lovely location and the staff are all very friendly and helpful - we recommend this hotel unreservedly. Breakfast is fine - they even had porridge which was just right before our walking days. There was a range of foods - more than adequate for anybody except the fussiest eater. The bedrooms are spacious with a... More

Decent rooms clean. a little dated a TV 20 year old, we had a top floor room 1102 beautiful view of Funchal. The public areas need a coat of paint and things would be OK. The breakfast was abysmal, croissants like rocks, other guest said dinner was no better luckily we were only B&B. Staff in the the hotel were... More

We had room 1102 excellent views 1104 probably the best. Hotel staff excellent even got birthday note from them. Hotel needs a bit of fresh paint, breakfast very disappointing. But hey what we paid cannot complain. Customers also said dinner was not any better.

Booked a last minute deal to Funchal and stayed at the Dorisol Buganvilia and had a very comfortable stay here. I was allocated a room on the seventh floor looking East over Funchal bay which had fantastic views to the harbour. Check in was quick and efficient and all staff from the receptionists, restaurant staff and the cleaners were very... More
