We stayed here 1 night after the walk to Curral das Freiras which is amazing as is the walk back but slightly more uphill! Clearly this is a day trip location really with great views and busy lunch operation. However the evenings are dead, we were one of about 5 couples staying who ate there and when we arrived we... On reaching Eira Do Serrado, spectacular mountain scenery comes into view and the flowery smell of the freshest air was very calming. Near the parking area is a café with outdoor tables to enjoy the scenery while having coffee or some snacks. The view from here is already impressive but the viewpoint of Eira Do Serrado which is still 5-minute... More

Fabulous place to visit, whether you go by bus, taxi, or hire a car. The views over the Nuns Valley, and start of the soccrodidos valley are breathtaking, and I have been here on a number of occasions. This time however we stopped for a meal, as the food prices seemed very reasonable. We only wanted a light lunch, and... More

On our sixth visit to the wonderful island of Madeira we decided to visit Estalagem Eira do Serrado once more as we had enjoyed a delicious lunch at this hotel on a previous holiday as this hotel is open to non-residents. On our previous visit we had hired a car and my husband negotiated the steep winding roads extremely well... More

public transport options very limited, which accompanied by poor information was very frustrating. we were told by the reception of the hotel that the first bus to Funchal was at 9.30 which needed booking but that then there was one at 10, 10.30... It turns out that this actually meant the next bus left Funchal at 10 (why was this... More

It takes a while but when asked, I was told the indoor pool opens in 3 weeks. They have built a spa with jacuzzi, fitness and a nice big enough pool with a magnificent view. Also new is a suite consisting of a separate living and bedroom for 2, both with a TV and both having access to a large... More

The whole reason I decided to go to Madeira on my only once a year vacation was because of a few photos I came across of Curral das Freiras, Valley of the Nuns. From my lovely balcony I had a view of the valley below surrounded by volcanic mountains. There was also a VERY short hike with stairs up to... More

The hotel is absolutely lovely and the location is amazing. The view from the room is really nice and you can enjoy it while sitting with a glass of wine and look at the sunset in the room balcony. we were happy with everything. the standard is really good, everything new, nothing looked tired. I would only add a little... More

Lovely hotel staff excellent. Although there was building works going on it did not spoil our stay. We opted for half board and found the meals overall were good. The roads to the hotel were breathtaking, vary narrow and winding but it was all part of the experience. Madeira itself was overall a lovely island and like most places some... More

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We were in Madeira for 14 nights in total. In our first week we had a car and it was a case of touring 2 nights and move on. We had booked our hotels quite early in the year (February to be precise) and we did it through Bookings.com who have never... More
