Although tripadvisor list is as a Funchal hotel, this is further away in the mountainous central part. If you plan to rent a car, this is a good location (typical Madeira) with spectacular views to spend one or two nights at. The rooms were spacious and the restaurant served very good food. Apart from that there were some smallish road... more

my partner and i stayed here for 2 nights during a little tour of the island. the views and location are simply breath taking. out superior room had stunning views of the valley of nuns below and was large and relatively private. the food served as part of our half board stay was delicious, beautifully presented and served by the... more

This place still puzzles me - just got back from a 4 night stay It's clean, modern, spacious, friendly & professional staff, good food, stunning mountan views from the dining terrace and well worth its 4 stars - there is no pool but the hot tub's never busy and there's a nice sun deck I booked it via a search... more

We rented a car and were free to roam around - beautifull dramatic setting. Plenty of walkes nearby. I found it very romantic and relaxing. more

First off this place is not the easiest location to get to without a car. Yes there are buses but I think there was only one bus a day when we went to Madeira in March 2008. We took a taxi and it was expensive at over 40 euros! The stress we experienced at having to find a way there... more

the hotel has out of this world views, really beautifull scenery and really friendly staff to go with it..staff are always helpfull(if you can find them).only problem we found was that the reception can be a little sparce sometimes..there are many coach trips to the hotel, but dont let this put you off in any way, they have no involvement in the hotel... more

The hotel is located at a well known viewpoint overlooking 'The Nun's Valley' about 25 minutes drive from Funchal at the end of a steep mountain road. The main attraction of the hotel is the views of the Nun's Valley and surrounding mountains from both the bedrooms and the restaurant. The rooms are good but basic, all coming with en-suite... more

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights at the beginning of November. Despite the fact it was a nice stay, not sure if I would choose this hotel again. Rooms - **: we stayed in a standard room and were quite happy about the size. Rooms are very basic, although clean and new. I was expecting more from a 4*... more

We have just returned from 8 nights at the Eira do Serrado and all I can say is that what a heavenly place and we can't wait to go back. This Hotel is perched high on a mountain 1053m above Funchal with spectacular views over the Nun's Valley and the mountains beyond. It is very popular with walkers. After a... more

We stayed for ten days ,but wished we had had longer.you will need a hire car ,but i would recomend even if you drive for a living as i do ,to take a taxi from the airport to get a feel for the conditions and the style of driving ,then have the car delivered to the hotel. The staff at the... more
