Very good value for money. Clean room, a bit basic, but comfortable and free wi-fi in the room. Very cheap and pleasant breakfasts. Friendly staff. My husband had a birthday whilst we were there and we found a bottle of sparkling wine in our room with birthday wishes on the day. Must have got it from our passports! Wonderful customer... More

Clean, comfortable, great central location and cheap. Yes a bit dated but certainly very good quality-price ratio. We had 2 single beds and a sofa bed, they brought us a travel cot for the baby as we requested. Kitchenette was ok: fridge, microwave, electric jobs, kettle and all basic kitchen utensils. Bathroom was a bit old but clean and fully... More

Very friendly and helpful staff. They do anything to make your stay a very pleasant one. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The apartments (Sao Paulo) are located very near the center, harbour and bus stops. Just a few minutes walk and you are in the heart of wonderful Funchal from where the rest of the island is just a... We were looking for a place in the middle of Funcahl so that we could walk to everything> That is what we got. The hotel is in an old building that has been mostly upgraded to modern standards. The only problem was they have no elevator to get to the third floor. With heavy luggage that was a problem. Isabella... More

Dear Mr. Wilson, Thank you very much for your kind review regarding your recent stay with us. It's a pleasure to know that you were satisfied with our services. Our building is from the begining of twentieth century, when elevators were not very common on a two-story building. Unfortunately, we can not change that, but we expect the terrace and... More

Good location close to old town of Funchal. The traffic outside can however be a problem during early evenings and mornings. The kitchen in our room was tiny but well equipped. Dont miss the restsurant in the basement.

This place is over-rated. It is tired and dated and really needs an overhaul in terms of the interior i.e. Beds, decor, bathroom, kitchenette as well as the staff. It is grubby, poorly run and grotty. With no air conditioning it is always nice to leave the windows and doors open - well not here. The roads are noisy 24/7.... More

The room was quite noisy at night but the manager would have changed the room.the room itself was very clean and comfortable.two single beds with an additional couch. I was on my own but there was plenty of room for three people. Nice wooden floor in the bedroom! Good breakfast with a very friendly lady preparing such. Will definitely return... More

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in late May. We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay here again. The hotel manager at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. Just bring him a map and he'll offer excellent recommendations. He even spent a while helping us figure out which levada walk to... More

Travelling on my own I was looking for value for money, space, cleanliness and location near to the old town. This apartment complex fulfilled all of the above. Sao Paulo is on the west end of Rua da Carreira and is the older more retro style of the two properties. I had a studio apartment on first floor. The room... More

We stayed a week at Sao Paulo. The hotel is in excellent condition and the cleaning service was great. We admired the floor in our room which was beautiful. I think it can be described as mosaics made of different kinds of wood. It is located close to the centre of the city which makes it far more convenient than... More
