Travelled with Thomas Cook and the taxi transfer was excellent. Very good welcome from reception staff. We had decided not to pay the extra for a sea view as we had already travelled extensively this year, so we were in the original part of the hotel, very spacious and spotlessly clean. No balcony or terrace as stated in the brochure... More

This is an excellent hotel, particularly in terms of its staff and its location. Staff were attentive, friendly and always helpful. Their English was perfect and the Reception staff were always ready to answer general enquiries and offer advice. The hotel is in the old town on a very quiet and beautiful site about 5 minutes walk away from numerous... More

We returned to this hotel after enjoying a stay 2 years ago and were not disappointed. The hotel is conveniently located and very clean, with pleasant, helpful staff. On arrival we found we had been upgraded from a garden room to a much larger room, but unfortunately this did not have a balcony. We were then offered a junior suite... More

This hotel is set in the stunning area of the old town, in a tranquil area, with the finest restaurants on its door steps, and stunning views of the harbor. It is only when you walk around Funchal that you realize that there is probably not a finer hotel in the area, and how fortunate you are not to have... More

This hotel is set just above the old town in a wonderful location. The views are magnificent. Our sea facing room had extensive views over the harbour. The breakfast was very good indeed with plenty of choice - even "bubbly". Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, reception particularly so. The room was clean and tidy. The remote control (air conditioning,... More

This was a lovely old hotel - public areas very grand. We booked a city /sea view which was lovely - room a good size but the only let down was the bed - two singles made up as one and very - very hard materesses. So hard in fact that in the morning my husband and I found it... More

We stayed for a week, very nice room with a view over the old city and the ocean. Very clean room with a balcony overlooking the terraces, pool and ocean. good facilities (no drinks making, however). Very pleasant and attentive staff, delicious afternoon teas. we were welcomed with a complimentary drink of Madeiran wine and local delicacies. Overall a very... More

If you like the mainstream hotel area with lots of other tourists and want a view of other hotels, dont go to this hotel. If you like a beautiful quiet garden, overlooking the port, and set near the old town of Funchal with good local shops and places to eat then this the one for you. It is calm and... More

We booked this hotel was for its location. It is well placed in the old part of Funchal. First impressions were favourable. However, when we were shown our room, disappointment set in. It was very clean and tidy but small, tired and jaded. The balcony was also small. After our first hotel (Ponta De Sol) this was a big disappointment.... More

I don't normally post on commercial sites but felt obliged to having read MikeinHackney's recent review on a hotel we stayed in at the start of February and last June. As Mike said the location is superb, in a quiet setting with superb views from the higher floors (we stayed on the 3rd with a sea view, well worth the... More
