Despite not staying at this hotel myself I visited a couple of clients who were. Helga from customer relations showed me around the hotel and then had lunch. The location was excellent with beautiful views over the port of Funchal. I could not get over how quiet the location was and the hotel despite being full was not busy around... More

Staff could not do enough for you, breakfast excellent selection, clean and spacious and well worth its four stars. Location excellent with beautiful views of the harbour, although returning in the evening can be a pretty hilly climb.

We have just returned from a lovely few days in Funchal and the hotel was superb from start to finish. Decorated beautifully and has an olde worlde charm about it. Service was always good and staff were very helpful - especially Carla and Therese on reception. Our room was an inside room so sadly didn't face the sea but in... More

From arrival to departure we were well looked after. Our room was not ready when we arrived but we were offered complimantery drinks and only had to wait 15 minutes. Our room faced in land and although overlooking the road it did not prove to be detrimental to our sleep. We had 1 or 2 problems but these were resolved... More

This hotel has an old fashioned elegance & charm that is not easy to find these days. It is a well proportioned attractive property (photos attached), that is so close to the marina & the harbour as well as every conceivable style of restaurant that may appeal to you. When we arrived, our room had a problem, so for one... More

Where to start? Reception very poor and allocated to an attic room with small window. Asked to be moved and given room with balcony and good view.Unfortunately air conditioning very noisy and impossible to turn off so could not sleep. Reported it 3 times but to no avail. Tried to see manager but he/she never there. No visible sign of management... More

Back after exactly twelve months to find everything just as expected and the staff all recognisable. This hotel is in a quiet part of the old town just above the old fort. Not recommended for anyone having breathing or walking difficulties as the approach is quite steep. However for others a little bit af arobic exercise is always welcome. Do... More

We had to go to Funchal for a funeral and were put up in this hotel. Clearly our party was not in the best of spirits but the hotel staff looked after us extremely well. We were welcomed with a complimentary glass of Madeira and cheered the next morning by the view over the hotel's pool and out to sea.... More

When you arrive at any hotel, the first impression you get is the 'front of house' welcome which sets the tone for your entire stay. Unfortunately, there was no such welcome at this hotel - infact the receptionist barely acknowledged that our party of nine had arrived! She found it very difficult to look at anything other than her computer... More

Our first visit to Funchal, which was wonderful, helped by the fact that we were staying in a superb hotel. So different from the "concrete horrors" of the "Hotel Zone". This place was ideally placed for all the sights of this wonderful city, food was very good (huge choice at breakfast!). Staff very friendly and helpful, willing to book excursions... More
