This is a wonderful hotel. The food is delicious and the choice is amazing- lovely local dishes as well as the usual roasts. Fresh fruit, wide variety of breads, freshly made pancakes, omelettes, full English, sparkling wine, almost endless choice for breakfast. Even as a fussy vegetarian I was happy! The room was spacious and we had our own little... More

We visited Madeira for a week from March 16 - 23. Unfortunately the weather was not very good - at times quite cold, rainy and on the first day very windy. Stayed at the Porto Mare hotel. It is a large complex and took a little time to find our way around. The room that we had was very comfortable... More

We visited Madeira for the first time this year and were very pleased with our choice of Hotel Porto Mare. We were pleasantly surprised to receive an upgrade to our room on arrival and were impressed with the cleanliness, friendliness and good food at the hotel. It is situated outside the town of Funchal but the town itself is easily... More

This was the second time that we have stayed at the Porto Mare Madeira and it was just as good the second time as the first. The room was large and cleaned to a high standard every day. The food was plentiful and well presented. The restaurant service was good even though there was a shortage of staff at busy... More

hotel was excellent from the breakfast buffet and the accommodation and facilities dispite the limitations to wifi however I will not stay here again. The reasons why if you come to funchal it is too far away from the major bus stations (even though it provides a courtesy bus service ) Also the reason most people go to madeira is... More

We have just returned from our third visit in nine months to this excellent hotel and our previous reviews have highlighted most of the obvious positives but here are a couple of extra pluses. The management style is distinctly MBWA – Management by Walking About. Now we have seen this in other hotels but here it is really effective because... More

Porto Mare was an excellent place to stay with school aged kids. The hotel is very beautifully located close to the sea. The gardens of the hotel are just lovely. The staff is very friendly. The family apartment (2 rooms&kitchenette) we had was very big and functional with a wonderful sea view. For kids there is enough to do when... More

This was our second holiday to Madeira but our first with our 8 month daughter. We chose Porto Mare after reading the reviews on tripadvisor and also we saw it during our previous visit. On arrival the hotel staff were extremely friendly and told us everything we needed to know about the hotel. There were 4 adults in our party... More

Short 4-day break at the Porto Mare. Great to return after four years. Still excellent service and attention to detail. Noticed that generally Madeira has raised the bar on food quality and service judging on the restuarants we visited including the Italian themed Basilico in the hotel. Looking forward to visiting the new Liberdade hotel in Lisbon in May.
