A lot of reviews seem to focus on the 'steep' climb from the pool up to the hotel but it really is not bad. In fact the lovely gardens around the path make it a pleasurable walk and there's plenty of opportunity for lizard spotting on the way! We were two of the few British visitors staying at the hotel... Arrived at the hotel after a short journey from the airport to be told that our room was on the 11th floor. Having read the reviews before the trip I was worried that this would be the dreaded 'promo' room so we viewed our room and then asked to see the upgrade which would be 35 euros more for the... The junior rooms are very spacious and kept very clean by the maids. As people say if unfit hard work down the slope and steps to the pool but once there beautiful area overlooking the Atlantic. One strange anomaly price for drinks double the price of the beach bar just a few metres away. I found the staff very courteous... More

Booked this hotel on the information and reviews on this site and not disappointed. A very nice hotel with friendly and efficient staff in all departments. Had room 603 ,very comfortable with fantastic balcony .Slept with patio window open for gentle breeze and sound of sea .Good T.V. with channel guide, clean towels and maids in every day, spotless. The Orca Praia is one of the few hotels with a beach location, situated on the beachside promenade from Funchal to Camera to Lobos, a few metres from the bars and seafood restaurants of Praia Formosa. Provided one is fit enough to navigate the steep descent to the large, clean pool, one can swim overlooking the Atlantic. My double room... More

we booked a 'promotional rate' room which turned out to be the infamous below the restaurant room (see other internet reviews). From 5 am onwards you could hear the clattering noise of staff preparing breakfast and then from 6 onwards the hordes of people goign to breakfast, sliding chairs etc etc Absolutely no sound proofing and even with earplugs it... I booked here last minute and selected the hotel based on the reviews of others on this site. GOOD CHOICE! LOCATION: Great location with the bus stop in front of the hotel (about a 15-min ride into town). FOOD: breakfast was fine. Good place for lunch or dinner is the place along the promenade, turning left when you leave the... More

Stayed at the Orca Praia Hotel for a week just before Christmas and had a very enjoyable stay. Most if not all the staff were very friendly and helpful (more than what could be said of some of the other guests who were staying at the hotel). Our room was excellent (403) and kept spotlessly clean by the cleaners. Food... More

First visit to Madeira. We picked this hotel for the location as we prefer to be away from the madding crowds. This hotel did not fail us. The hotel was spotless. The staff were very friendly. The food is not the best I have eaten but we stayed on a b and b only and the breakfast was sufficient. The... More
