The Orca Praia is one of the few hotels with a beach location, situated on the beachside promenade from Funchal to Camera to Lobos, a few metres from the bars and seafood restaurants of Praia Formosa. Provided one is fit enough to navigate the steep descent to the large, clean pool, one can swim overlooking the Atlantic. My double room... More

we booked a 'promotional rate' room which turned out to be the infamous below the restaurant room (see other internet reviews). From 5 am onwards you could hear the clattering noise of staff preparing breakfast and then from 6 onwards the hordes of people goign to breakfast, sliding chairs etc etc Absolutely no sound proofing and even with earplugs it... I booked here last minute and selected the hotel based on the reviews of others on this site. GOOD CHOICE! LOCATION: Great location with the bus stop in front of the hotel (about a 15-min ride into town). FOOD: breakfast was fine. Good place for lunch or dinner is the place along the promenade, turning left when you leave the... More

Stayed at the Orca Praia Hotel for a week just before Christmas and had a very enjoyable stay. Most if not all the staff were very friendly and helpful (more than what could be said of some of the other guests who were staying at the hotel). Our room was excellent (403) and kept spotlessly clean by the cleaners. Food... More

First visit to Madeira. We picked this hotel for the location as we prefer to be away from the madding crowds. This hotel did not fail us. The hotel was spotless. The staff were very friendly. The food is not the best I have eaten but we stayed on a b and b only and the breakfast was sufficient. The... More

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of December. Lovely clean hotel with larger than average rooms and balcony. All rooms face the sea so sun is on balcony all day. Quiet and peaceful with only the sound of the waves. Excellent choice for breakfasts, buffet-style and hot food which was replenished constantly. Friendly staff and very good maid... More

The Hotel Orca Praia is beautifully situated on a cliff above a black sand and pebble beach and has beautiful views across the Atlantic Ocean, with superb sunsets. Being 6km from Funchal and 2km from Camera de Lobos (village) it's not central but that is part of its charm. There are buses every half hour to both places and the... More

The hotel is located on a nice quiet stretch of seafront about 5km west of central Funchal, a pleasant walk about half of which is on a good coastal footpath, the remainder into Funchal is a bit more urban. Going west the coastal footpath continues about 2kn to Camara de Labos. The hotel claims to have a 'shuttle' bus a... More
