The hotel has a deceiving front entrance as it is on a busy road and bus stop in front of it. Once you go through the front doors this is not really obvious. We were on the 8th floor in a twin sea view room although we requested a double. A basket of fruit and a bottle of bubbly was... more

We stayed at the Momnumental Lido for 7 nights on a half board basis on the 29th June 2009 with Thomson holidays and we were somewhat dispondent when reading a poor review 2 days prior to going and even thought of changing the hotel but decided it was to late and we would have to judge ourselves. On arrival we... more

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for two weeks and we had a most enjoyable time. The hotel is in an excellent location about 10 minutes from the centre of Funchal. There is a bus stop outside the hotel with regular buses running all day and late in the evening. You can purchase your bus ticket from Joe's... more

We stayed in Room 537 - which is an apartment. Large room with flat screen tv, good bathroom, ample storage, kitchen with microwave, kettle, toaster, full size fridge with freezer compartment and the biggest balcony I have ever seen! Everything very clean, regular change of towels - even provided pool towels. You can eat in hotel restuarant for E12.50 buffet... more

The Monumental Lido looks like it needs a bit of refurbishment - it's pretty old-fashioned compared with other hotels in the same area. The rooms are very small, but are kept clean enough. I had a room on the 10th floor, which had a great sea view, but I believe that some rooms faced out onto the busy Estrada Monumental,... more

The hotel is located on a busy road that leads into the centre of Funchal and is positioned just behind the Lido (about a block). The lido itself is down a steep hill. Ok going down but if you have mobility problems you are going to need to take a couple of breaks coming back up! The hotel has apparently... more

Spent a week here early June ,travelled with Thomson who have turned my review but I want to give a viewpoint as this may help others, as we chose this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews. I would agree with most comments regarding Madeira in general, we had a good weeks hol. The hotel is ready for an update, our rom... more

This is a nice clean and comfortable hotel, however the location lets it down, there is no where to stroll at night like a proper promenade and we were expecting a choice of bars to walk to for an evening drink, the footpaths are in need of re-doing so it's not suitable for the less mobile. The road outside the... more

JUst returned from a week at the Monumental Lido. Really enjoyed, very quiet and peaceful, all the previously stated building work has been finished. The whole hotel was spotless. Were only B&B but the food was plentiful, really enjoyed the fresh fruit, but was puzzled why there was always canned apricots. The weather was lovely. not too hot. Plenty of... more
