I will most definitely go back and stay there. Friendly host always happy to help. Good rest in fresh sheets and clean atmosphere. Lovely breakfast with the best of company while listening stories and Madeira history. Good value for money.

Residential Melba is situated near the Monumental area of Funchal with easy access to the city centre. There are 2 great pubs close, The Local & The White House. The bedrooms are fine if a little tired. En suite rooms have a good hot shower but not even a tablet of soap is provided. Breakfast is ok, excellent bread rolls... More

Good: cheap price, better than average breakfast, helpful staff. Bad: extra thin walls that allow to hear everything the person next door is doing, therefore making hard to rest - which you normally want on vacations - or feel you have privacy, a good half an hour walk to Funchal's center, which consider its tiny size it's a lot. Stayed there for only one night, all in all the place served its perpose, but i didnt like the general feeling of decadance about the place and breakfast was awful. Cheap thou, so dont expect much. Saw the pool and decided not to use it.

Turned up for our room which was booked in October and confirmed by Booking.com but when we arrived we were told there was a "problem". He sat in our car and directed us to another place where we stayed for the two nights. The place we stayed at was the Residencia Lucitania. This was ok but the beds creaked every... More

Be careful. The Melba and Monte Verde are 2 separate hotels on the same site sharing a pool. I have only just read of the politics of the 2 hotels on trip advisor which I didn’t encounter. My hotel the Melbe was a budget hotel with squash for breakfast not juice, but it’s acceptable in a budget establishment. I enjoyed... More

Having stayed elsewhere for the week and just needing one nights BB we chose what we thought was a local guest house (booked via expedia) it turned out to be larger with quite a few rooms. The greeting was somewhat luke warm but ok. The room was very basic but with nice clean linen and towels. Bathroom was adequate and... More
