The room was very nice, tidy, it had a little patio outside but thus is standard nowadays to have a kettle in the room. We travel with a small girl who drinks milk before bedtime and there was no other way to get boiling water then to go downstairs to bar. TV would also be nice.

In April Sue and I made our first visit to Madeira and were so pleased we had chosen to stay at the Flame Tree. This is a family run guest house with a lovely ambience and staff who are friendly and helpful. The location is delightful, set on the hill to the west of Funchal with panoramic views across the... Me and my girl friend stayed at this place for couple of days and were very happy that we have chosen this place. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. We wanted to get a rental car, and the receptionist organise everything for us, all we had to do is meet the rent a car guy and pay... More

This was a last minute holiday with no idea what to expect. The hotel was quite small, just what we wanted. The rooms were small but had everything we needed. The staff were amazing so friendly from the managers to the restaurant staff to the domestic staff they couldn't do enough for us and we were soon on 1st name... More

This quiet hotel has just changed hands and is in the process of upgrading the facilities at the time of writing. It's location means that you will either need to get taxis or buses to get to the main town unless you are fit enough to cope with the steep gradients. It is clean and tidy but the room decoration... Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at The Flame Tree Madeira. We are pleased that you found it good value for money. We are located 2km from the centre of Funchal, with regular buses passing on the main road and taxis available from Reception. It is a pleasant downhill stroll to Funchal from The Flame... More

We spent just one night at this hotel and although it is under new management it still has a long way to go . Our rooms were so basic, and small with very little natural light . No television or wifi and breakfast was not included in the price. The staff were polite but obviously under pressure. I wish them... More

Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with some aspects of your short stay with us. The rooms you booked were standard rooms, without breakfast. We have many other room options, with both balconies and ocean views, and serve a delicious breakfast on our garden terrace every morning, which can be purchased locally if you... More

Since the Flame Tree Hotel has a new management many things have changed and probably will change. So you can forget most of the old reviews (before Dec 2014). The staff is very friendly and tries to help you as good as they can. The food was also very very good so if you can you should take the half... More

After we arrived we were told we had to pay extra if we wanted a balcony room (we had not been told this before). So we paid 16.95 euros each per night extra, which included breakfast and evening meal. The room we stayed in was very small with a tiny bed and basic furniture. The bathroom was also very small.... There were cockroaches in the bedroom and at pool and those were the ones we saw! Unhelpful and unfriendly staff. No sun loungers at the pool, they were in a pile at the side of the hotel broken and covered in danger tape Very expensive and poor quality breakfast. Dirty water being thrown over us when we were eating breakfast... More
