The Vila Camacho is a budget priced hotel well situated overlooking the wide sweep of Funchal Bay. As many hotels in Funchal there are lots of steps to climb to arrive at Reception and then to get to one's room. We were on the 2nd floor having upgraded to a room with a sea view and half board accomodation The... More

This was our first trip to Madeira and it certainly will not be the last. We are full of praise for the Madeiran people, the most pleasant, helpful and courteous nation we have ever met. Everybody we spoke to took time to assist us and were more than happy to do it. Everybody also speaks English, even if only a... More

The Hotel was nice, and everything was going very smooth until one morning i woke up and my purse was nowhere to be seen, i latter found out that my empty purse was found inside the swiming pool and that all i had inside it was stolen, someone broke in to our room while we where sleeping, this shows that... Great little place, really quaint, very clean and good value for money, However Miguel the manager will show you to the dungeon across the road before offering you the upgrade to a room with view plus half board for 180 euros per week per couple. This worked out quite well as the new room was small but nice and you could either... More

This hotel is exceptional value for money - and the more you spend the better it is! From reading reviews I knew that it was a small typically Portuguese hotel in a residencial, built up area of Funchal so I was not surprised by the extreme difference in quality of rooms depending on location in one of the various converted... The hotel was busy when we arrived. Our room was small but adequate. We arrived late so opted to eat in on the first night. What a revelation: the food and service is outstanding and the wine reasonably priced & of good quality. The following night our friends who have holidayed annually at 5 star establishments in Funchal for more... More

First: Some booking systems mark the hotel 2 kilometers far from the point where it is really situated! So, before you go, check the location on the website of the Hotel! Vila Camacho is situated the middle of this map: http://www.vilacamacho.com/index.php/location Easy to reach from the city center with bus nr. 45. (get off the stop called RG 3 or... More

Nice cheap hotel with small swiming pool. Staff are very friendly. About 30 minutes walk to the city but you need a transport back (150 m above see level). Need some new furniture in rooms and there is no fridge in the room. Rooms 51 and 52 have gorgeous views of the Funchal bay. In general, I recommend this hotel... More

The owners must think this is a 5* hotel, they should get out more. We had the option of half board when booking our holiday, we opted NOT to eat in the same restaurant every day, hence no HB booked. The first conversation when booking in was to be asked for an up front payment of over 180 Euros to... More

So, it was back to our delightful Madeiran bolthole again and we had a fantastic welcome back from the principal players - General Manager Miguel, William, Nelson and Ricardo. Nothing has changed - still the same people and the food is as good as ever. Actually, there is one thing that has changed since last year, Tony Camacho, the owner... More
