Since the Flame Tree Hotel has a new management many things have changed and probably will change. So you can forget most of the old reviews (before Dec 2014). The staff is very friendly and tries to help you as good as they can. The food was also very very good so if you can you should take the half... More

New management of Vila Camacho: everything is excellent! The hotel is a welcoming place and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Very good also dinner and breakfasts including homemade products and Madeira fresh fruits.

After we arrived we were told we had to pay extra if we wanted a balcony room (we had not been told this before). So we paid 16.95 euros each per night extra, which included breakfast and evening meal. The room we stayed in was very small with a tiny bed and basic furniture. The bathroom was also very small.... There were cockroaches in the bedroom and at pool and those were the ones we saw! Unhelpful and unfriendly staff. No sun loungers at the pool, they were in a pile at the side of the hotel broken and covered in danger tape Very expensive and poor quality breakfast. Dirty water being thrown over us when we were eating breakfast... More

The room we had was a simple room with two beds. The beds cannot be put together so not good for a couple stay. I am 200 cm tall and I could not fit into the bed. The breakfasts are very simple and are the same all week long. The service is super slow. Also the last day we stayed... More

I booked a double room for one night and, as I read in the reservation, I was expecting to pay with Visa card. However, when I got there it was raining a lot and I was without cash. The staff told me they would let me sleep there if I pay with cash! So, I had to call a taxi... More

A great value place for a night or 2 in Funchal. The rooms are basic and the breakfasts are quite basic too. However, this hotel is just a very short bus ride from the centre of Funchal. The nightly rate is never too high so, always worth a consideration. There is a great place only a short walk away to... More

I've spent my Easter holidays in Madeira and we booked this hotel since it was one of the cheapest in Funchal. We were mainly interested in a place where to sleep, since with 3 days, we would have spent the time driving around the island. I read all the information about the upgrade here, so I was prepared to decline... More

I recently travelled here with my sister for a small break. When we arrived at this hotel it was basically a building site, we had hardly any sleep and was woken every morning @7 on the dot by a concrete smasher. Staff were rude and could have had better manners. Only best thing about this place is the beds. Will not... More

Stayed 7 nights last week with friend of mine on our Madeira hiking trip, will try to sum it up using bullet points.. Positive: - price, paid 175 Euro or so - parking space close by - nice terrace and quite good views - good turn down service, we got clean towels every or every other day - amazing snack... More
