This Hotel isvery tired and while the staff are very helpful and pleasant, the rooms leave a lot to be desired like tea/ coffee making facilities and wifi, which is only available in the reception area. The Hotel also boasts of a heated pool, this is not so we were there in March, and I suspect the Atlantic was warmer. For those of... More

Pros: good price, spacious room, large balcony, beautiful sea view, good food, free parking, fridge in the room, free shuttle bus to the town, shopping centre near, Cons: dated rooms/bathrooms, old and uncomfortable beds, rude breakfast staff, no free wifi in rooms, paying extra for a room safe, Sleep quality: 2 stars, Location: 3 stars, Service: 3 stars, Rooms: 4... Unfortunately I was allergic to the carpets in the room so the hotel VERY kindly transferred me to the partner hotel, Alto Lido. The reception team where very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is absolutely amazing with a great view. If they spent some money doing the rooms up to current standards, this hotel would be a GEM in... More

As others have said it is definitely not 4*. Rooms clean and fittings functioned OK. Decor dated but old fashioned TV worked fine. Lots of storage. The location was good and the courtesy bus service was much appreciated. Pleasant walk into Funchal if a change from the bus wanted. The restaurant seemed too small for the number of people with tables pushed... More

This hotel is sold as a 4* but in reality it was 4* about 30 years ago. Today the rooms and the rest of the hotel look like something out of a B-rated movie. Everything is worn and somewhat dirty. The rooms are relatively large and they all have balconies, but the bathrooms, bed linen, pillows etc have been used... More

As said before by others this hotels glory days are over. 80-90's decoration, lots of marble... But very clean, huge rooms and everything worked. No wifi in the rooms but at least in the lobby and cocktail bar. Ok hotel, seen a lot worse places.

Clean rooms, comfortable beds and reasonable enough service. The hotel was spotless albeit dated. The pool is great and it is located in what can only be described as the hotel district. Would I go back, yes.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a short break in March. Let's start with positives: good location about 20-25 minute walk into town and great views out to the sea. It has some good facilities, there is even a squash court in the middle of the hotel, and pool area is ok. The courtesy bus to town is useful, 4... More

We have just come back from a weeks holiday at madeira and stayed at the Baia Azul hotel. Good things first. Check in was good with the receptionist giving out maps and other info, 12 euros for hiring the safe and we have not used hotel keys in years , all seem to have cards now. The room was nice... More

I do wonder what some people expect from a holiday having read some of these reviews. My husband and I stayed here 17-27th December 2014 and it was very enjoyable, all staff very pleasant and helpful. We checked in and a member of staff took our bags to our room (1012) which was very big with plenty of storage. We... More
