A couple of nights at this hotel at the end of a walking holiday. Positives include fantastic views over Funchal and easy access to the cable car. The hotel was clearly once very grand, but the world has moved on and Quinta do Monte has not. Dark, depressing decor with troubling stains on carpets in communal areas. The food in... More

This was the final hotel on our walking holiday and we were very pleased to find that our Superior room had been upgraded to a Suite! It had a huge bedroom and a comfortable sitting room with large flatscreen TV and fridge, glasses, tea/coffee/kettle and large bathroom with corner bath & separate shower. We were able to turn the heating... More

Thinking we would miss the tourist traps around the cable car area in Monte we fell into this 'cafe' in the gardens of Quinta do Monte Hotel. 20-30 tables served by one waiter who did his best and assisted by a 'chef' who prepared the delights in his wooden shack. Offerings quite minimal - white toasted break with a sliver... More

We stopped in this lovely Panoramic Gardens for lunch. Pumpkin soup (exquisite) and a special bolo da caco for my vegetarian husband with an omelette (very tasty too). The surroundings are great. Rhe little chapel with the baby angels is indeed worth a look. It is a high cost place but it makes you think of the old days... imagination

This is a review of the "Cocktail-Bar" outside (can't see the entry just for it in tripadvisor), we didn't stay at the hotel. We got there via the cable car and since the bar has a lovely view we thought it would be a good a idea to get something to eat. It took 1h30 to get a beer and... More

After a very tragic year we decided for the first time ever to spend Christmas and the New Year away from home. We wanted somewhere with a Little luxury and and a nice atmosphere. We contacted our favourite tour Company and decided on Madeira as we have been there many time Before and like the Island. After reading their Review... More

In the tropical gardens above Funchal overlooking the sea you find Quinta do Monte, indeed a pearl to be discovered. On revisiting the hotel my appraisal of the eminent staff and the place is no less than it was years ago - outstandingly beautiful, professional, friendly and very charming. For those appreciating the hospitality of genuine culture, it is second... More

This hotel has more or less all you can wish for: spectacular views, pool and spa, billiard and bar, fine restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, lovely garden for walks and quiet (though not so spectacular) rooms all with balcony etc. Furthermore we got a cheap offer for the night so why not five stars? Because in spite of all this... More

The original quinta building of this hotel is beautiful but is underused - apart from reception. We liked our room, which was spacious with a large balcony overlooking the garden and Funchal and the sea beyond. We could have happily spent hours on it, but had too many other things to cram into our visit. The bathroom was also large... More

On approach the hotel looks lovely. More effort is being made with the gardens than the interior. The setting is beautiful as are the views. The hotel is furnished with antiques and other traditional furniture giving a warm feel to the place. Unfortunately it is all just tired, like the home of a house proud but hard up elderly relative.... More
