Stayed in lots of five star hotels and this hotel comes no where near the standard, to claim the five stars it says it is. Yet it charges five star prices. You get none of those added luxuries like slippers, body wash, sewing kits and hair conditioner etc., only cheap shampoo and bath gel OH not forgetting a shower cap.... more

5 Star - not on your life, one can only guess why the hotel seam to have two names! Full review on my travel pod blog at http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/rstamp/2/1235991240/tpod.html This hotel shows a decided lack of attention to detail and without a doubt that the concept of a quality hotel is beyond their understanding and this traveler would not recomend it... more

We were happy to do a 'flexiclub' for four weeks. This was just about right. because there are no budget flights (air fair £300 pp) and when you are 70 you don't want to go to the same place annually. The staff are efficient but can be a little 'po' faced. A great place for us older people but children... more

We stayed at the Regency Palace 18th - 25th May. This was our second trip to beautiful Madeira and we enjoyed the flora & fauna just as much as the first visit. Our holiday was a week's timeshare swap booked some time ago - the Regency Palace being the only hotel available at the time. To put the record straight... more

Took my elderly mother to this hotel for a break last week and she thoroughly enjoyed it. So did I. It made me feel young again as I was probably the only person in the hotel under 70!! SAGA tours ( plus German versions of Saga tours) and elderly timeshare owners made up over 80% of the guests. Absolutely nothing... more

We were stopped near the marina in Funchal by a girl saying she was doing a survey for tourism, we answered a few questions, told to pick and ticket and that we had a won a bottle of wine and a holiday. We were then told we had to go to the Madeira Regency Hotel to collect, we said OK... more

Spend one week in Regency Palace and it was great. After reading some negative reviews I was afraid of what would I find and I found a nice hotel, with helpfull and nice staff, with very good food. Rooms are big and nicely decorated. There are no building works in the hotel or in the surroundings. Gas deposit tanks that... more

Went with friends and used one of their pre-paid vouchers on their flexiplan arrangement. Were apprehensive because of the relatively low cost but on arrival were very pleasantly surprised. We were allocated a spacious suite ( bedroom, bathroom and lounge with a dining and kitchen area) and with a balcony overlooking the 3 outdoors pools and the sea. Everything very... more

Like a prawn cocktail or a Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie, the Madeira Regency Palace just hasn't moved on from the '70s (even if, in the 1970's, it was not even a glimmer in an architect's eye). The accommodation is tired, uninspiring and I'm afraid not scrupulously clean. Some members of staff are peremptory and only enjoy dealing with... more

We stayed here on a timeshare week exchange. Generally the hotel is very nice and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The building, pools, bar, reception area are all very pleasant. Our room could do with an update, and I would agree with other reviewers that the bathrooms are tired, though perfectly adequate. One cannot fault the standards of... more
