Perfect location friendly staff. Pool on edge of the sea. Although water cold. Easy walk along sea front to town and old town Suggest taking the bus no 20 or 21 to Monte. You need a sweater for evening's outside eating or for cooler windy days No beach just rocks

We enjoyed this hotel very much because it was quiet and comfortable. Rather unusually the rooms and corridors were carpeted which kept sound levels down. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the ambience was relaxed . It is well positioned for restaurants and buses and for town. The two pool areas were not at all crowded and as... More

My wife and I stayed here at the end of March early April and we were delighted with our stay. Our room was wonderful and had a balcony with a views over the pool and gardens and the sea. The room was perfectly clean and very comfortable and all the staff were very good and friendly. We booked half board... More

We had a lovely week in this quinta near Funchal. The flat we stayed in was set in beautiful gardens overlooking the sea. We had B and B which was fine as there are plenty of excellant restaurants very close . The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel had some beautiful old furniture and was very comfortable. Also... More

My husband and I have visited Madeira four times in the last 20 years. We have stayed three times at Penha de França Mar the seaside wing of the main hotel, Quinta da Penha de França, which we stayed in once with our family. The main hotel is a traditional Portuguese manor house beautifully restored surrounded with beautiful gardens and... More

Lovely collection of old buildings interspersed with gardens and terraces. Great atmosphere at breakfast either inside or out on raised terrace. Same area serves as early evening aperitif venue. Lounge in reception area is delightfully furnished, light and very soothing. Good Wi-Fi in same area. Prices are reasonable and overall give good value for a very relaxed stay. Location is... More

We have been visiting Madeira for the past thirty years, tonight we had the worst meal ever, at the Quinta da penha de. Franca. The soup was cold, changed, but still cold, the main course was tasteless, granted they did not charge us for the food, just drinks, we certainly would not come here again Would like to add, we... Quinta Da Penha De Franca is a small hotel of two halves. QPF is at the top of the hill and a delightful old hotel with lots of charm, next to the sea is the Penha da Franca de Mar a more modern hotel, both have pools and good facilities and are linked by a bridge. We stayed in, and... More

2 parts to the hotel. - Quinta da Penha de Franca is the old hotel up the hill with lots of character. Penha da Franca de Mar is a modern hotel down at sea level. A lift up 3 floors and then over their private bridge connects the two. We stayed in the Penha da Franca de Mar. All rooms... More

Just returned from a very relaxing week at QPF. Staff very helpful and friendly and very good selection for breakfast. We stayed in the old house. Décor a little tired, but perfectly adequate and actually adds to the atmosphere of the place. Plenty of places to sit out near the pool. Next time we would go for a room with... More
