Just returned from a week in this lovely budget boutique hotel on the outskirts of Funchal. My room [308] on the top floor was good sized with balcony having a seaview but a little to the side of the hotel. All rooms now have wifi and pretty good in my room. The location was a bit from the centre of... More

The hotel Escola is Madeira's school for the hotel and restaurant business. Students welcome you friendly and professionally. Check-in was done swiftly. The rooms are nice and spacious. The Atlantic ocean view is lovely. At night, with the windows open, you are pleasantly treated by the scent of flowers. The area around the hotel is quiet. For entertainment it is... More

We visited the Hotel Escola in June 2014 on the recommendation of a friend. We had never heard of this hotel school before, although we have been visiting Madeira for some 12 years. We ate dinner there. There is a set menu which offers 3 courses with coffee and includes wine and water. There are 2 choices of starters and... More

This is in no way a luxury hotel and it is west of the centre of Funchal. That said, we were comfortable overall, and very impressed with the staff, whether qualified or in training: their attitude was consistently pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was vary varied and there was a lot of it, from eggs to meats to delicious fresh... More

Almost as far west in Funchal as you can go, so away from modern beach or historic Funchal.- great if you have a car. Run for hospitiality/catering training but clean with attentive staff, and variety of public reception areas. Slightly utilitarian areas like lift and corridors, and some tired bits like pool and terrace furniture - but good value especially... More

Wow. I did not expect excellence it being a hotel training school but excellent it was. Unusually the rooms are fully carpetted and immaculately cleaned every day. The rooms all have a fantastic sea view. Serice is what you would expect from a top London Hotel. The brekfast buffet included, fresh fruits, meats cereals, scrambled egg (which was always very... I have just a lunch at this school hotel and what really stands out is the friendly, very professional and attentive service. In my perspective an awesome waitress makes for the whole experience. There wasn't much choice but it was good quality. Either way, for 6 eur per person the value for money was outstanding. Dinner will be a minimum... More

The hotel is run by the local tourism school, so you are served most of the times by students, that's why the unusual low prices for the type of hotel. This also means that sometimes you are served by inexperienced people, they do some mistake and do not speak proper English. But they are there to do their best, so... More

We had an excellent week staying here. The rooms are fine, with nice views from the front, immaculately clean. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of fresh fruit, and meats and cheeses for those that want them, with a good variety of breads, and some cooked food too. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. We dined in one night,... More
