We loved our stay in the Tower Room which faces the sea! Breakfast was brought to the room every morning (ham, cheese, eggs, coffee, bread) and we enjoyed eating it while looking at the sea. We even saw whales one day, so don't forget to take your binoculars with you! We had a huge bed, our own shower and wc.... More

It's in a good location at the top of the old town with a great selection of restaurants and nice little shops nearby. We had a very large sea view room with en-suite bathroom with a great view overlooking the harbour and the town to the right. The room featured a little dining table & chairs and two easy chairs... This is an extremely well located guesthouse in the old part of Funchal. Loads more character than the big hotels on the other side of the town. Near lots of lovely restaurants - Riso across the road is definitely worth a visit. Accomodation was really spacious, with great sea views (we were in the tower room) Having breakfast brought to... The guesthouse is an old family home where the character has been preserved. The furnishings are traditional. We had a warm welcome on arrival. The church clock would chime its first chimes at 8 am and then our breakfast would be delivered to the room at 8.30 am - perfect! We had the first floor room with balcony from which... More

We enjoyed a week here, just as the weather was cooling at the start of November. The location is excellent for a number of reasons. It is near to facilities - from restaurants to shops and the bus station. It is beside the coast so it is the first place to get the sun in the morning and keeps it... More

What a wonderful house in the center of the old town, within walking distance of many city events. We rented the whole house to accommodate our family of 10, which was an excellent choice. The charm of this piece of Maderian history was great. We were well taken care of with a breakfast each morning and use of the kitchen... More

We've spent here 7 nights and then (coming back from the trip around-the-island) 2 more nights. We were warm welcomed by Janaina and Angela. Our plane was delayed, we arrived late in the night and still there was a warm carrot soup on the stove waiting for us! Every day Angela was bringing us nice breakfast (bread, butter, ham, cheese,... We have stayed in Funchal many times in various hotels around the city. We wanted a change from busy hotels and decided to opt for a guesthouse in the heart of the old town. We are so pleased that we made this decision and feel that we have found a 'gem'. Janaina, Angela and Domingos were extremely attentive yet unobtrusive... More

Curteous and helpul owners, good value and excellent location in the old part of Funchal. John Tower Room offers excellent views over the bay and there is a nice cafe/bar frequented by locals a few doors away overlooking ocean and loads of restaurants to visit. I like hard beds as a sleep better but my only negative which didn't bother... More

We were welcomed by the owners who are very nice and warm guests, always available at any time of the day to help us out. The room ( the one on the first floor) was organized like a small suite, with a kitchen, very convenient. It was very clean and made every day, breakfast served at 8:30 or 9 AM... More
