For it's location - possibly a 4 star. This hotel is grubby and stained, has hard beds, poor front of house staff and the safes don't work - Alex Politzi is needed here as obviously the 5 star rating is misleading at best! They take payment at booking - I can only assume that there have been past residents that... More

Characterful hotel with excellent staff and cozy public rooms (the wood-panelled reading room was my favorite). Our room had a king size bed (apparently not common in Portugal) and a balcony overlooking a deep valley with trees and birdsong. This hotel is in touch with Sintra - tranquil and oozing with charm.

The hotel was nice with a friendly staff. Everything was fine until we went to bed. The bed was extremely hard and felt like we were sleeping on a carpeted floor. The ac was extremely loud, and we needed to turn it off, and it was impossible to open the window because of the busy street outside. It took my... More

We spent a night here during a trip through Portugal. Really charming building, with nice service. Unfortunately due to poor maintenance I don't believe it belongs in the 5 star category anymore, but I still wouldn't have missed on the opportunity to sleep there for the world!

We (sadly) only spent one night here on an overnight trip to Sintra from our base inLisbon. It had been recommended by a friend and we are so very pleased we took his advice and stayed here. Lawrence's is the epitome of a country hotel with cosy corners to curl up and read in with a glass of wine, which... More

This is a decent, run of the mill hotel. There is nothing particularly special about it. I don't understand the reviews that talk about its atmosphere or charm. It has little of both. It's location is good, very close to the center of town, but it's right on a busy road & noisy. There is WiFi in the room, and... More

The hotel is unique. Needs to be cherished by the people running it! Even though I love Lawrence's, it must be taken care of. It is not that a cheap shower head bothers me, but it just doesn't go with the great atmosphere of the hotel. The beds could be more comfortable. I hope the hotel keeps being taken care... More

Spent 5 nights here on a recommendation from a friend, I glad i booked it , it is just simply charming and peaceful and historic, the staff are super helpful the hotel is just lovely, very comfy bed apart from the pillows that are too soft, I'm sorry but the people who are complaining there is no WiFi in the... Spent 1 night here while on an REI hiking trip. Nice hotel, loved the historic charm. Of course, historic charm doesn't always include modern amenities. The most noticeable being no wi-fi in the rooms, only in the common areas. And like many old properties, the interior layout was a bit of a maze. Had the luck to get the Lawrence... More

Lord Byron, the romantic poet, called the Lawrence Hotel his glorious Eden. Among the 16 rooms, his suite is the most honoured and shown with pride to we, lesser mortals. Surely the views from the hotel inspired many lines of Childe Herald Pilgrimage. The quality of service, the wine selection and the superb restaurant supported his poetic flights. Lawrence's hotel...
